Unreal Tournament 3 For Linux Is Officially Dead 190

ndogg writes "There is no longer any uncertainty surrounding the release of Unreal Tournament 3 for Linux. It's official: the port is now dead. No reasons were given, but no one should be waiting for it anymore, if anyone still was."

Submission + - Blake Edwards, R.I.P. (imdb.com) 1

Comment I'm going to be honest here (Score 1) 376

I have not seen "The Hurt Locker," and probably never will; this mode of profit generation makes me not to even rent the damn thing, so they can suck it. Every person I know who saw this movie said the EXACT same thing: it sucked balls. I believe them, because everyone I read online says the same thing. This is why I haven't seen this movie, nor have I pirated it just out of some form of curiosity. It was not advertised where I live, and if it was at the theater, it was there less than 5 days. That's why this movie made no damn money! I go to the movies all the freakin' time, and this one was NEVER there at my local 12-plex...or at the 8-plex across town. No ads=no revenue. There you go. I don't give a shit if it won an award or not, that's meaningless. I've seen plenty of movies with "Best Picture" awards and thought they sucked ass through a pipe. Plus, they're going after IP Addresses. Wow. What a shitty way to tell if someone grabbed your crappy flick. IPs change all the time, it's a DHCP lease. So all you know is that someone with that IP at that time was in the swarm. Ok, so that means it was them at that time, right? Not on your life, IP spoofing is common. So are Proxies. You cannot trust IPs one iota when you're in a swarm. Not at all. And these chumps think that is the smoking gun for their lawsuit? Wow, they don't understand how shit works, do they? Also, keep in mind that these lawyers signed a contract with the movie studio: they keep 70% of all the money they get from the lawsuit. See a flaw there? Yeah, the big one you can drive a truck through? Yeah, that one.... gimme a break. They won't see a dime in money from a lawsuit like this (nobody ever has); and what's more it's nothing more than extortion along the lines of "Hey, give us money or we break your stuff!" Not cool.

What I had to do... "sudo iwlist eth1 scan" from the terminal. After you provide password, you get a listing of all the available wifi routers in range. One will be yours, check the channel it is on; compare it to all the other routers that show up in the list. Make sure that you are not sharing a channel with any of them. (I.E.: change the channel your router is on.) This is what solved my issue.

...how soon will they decide that this can be applied to anyone they deem to be a potential threat of even the slightest amount? Served your time? Sucks to be you! You're on the "dangerous persons list," so your rights to be released don't matter!

Fuck that shit. My country has gone down the tubes when a few assholes can say "you're dangerous," and you can be hauled away and never see the light of day again--no trial, no charges that would stick in any competent count...you're just gone. The America I knew and loved died and was replaced by some zombie controlled by a cruel puppet-master.

Cheap Cancer Drug Finally Tested In Humans 363

John Bayko writes "Mentioned on Slashdot a couple of years ago, the drug dichloroacetate (DCA) has finally finished its first clinical trial against brain tumors in humans. Drug companies weren't willing to test a drug they could not patent, so money was raised in the community through donations, auctions, and finally government support, but the study was still limited to five patients. It showed extremely positive results in four of them. This episode raises the question of what happens to all the money donated to Canadian and other cancer societies, and especially the billions spent buying merchandise with little pink ribbons on it, if not to actual cancer research like this."

Steam Client for Mac Launches, Linux Client On the Way 572

CyDharttha writes with news that the Mac version of Steam went live today, along with Mac versions of Portal, Team Fortress 2, and many other games. Valve plans to make more games available every Wednesday. Several publications are also reporting that a Linux version of Steam has been confirmed, and is expected within the next few months. Quoting Phoronix: "Found already within the Steam store are Linux-native games like Unreal Tournament 2004, World of Goo, and titles from id Software such as Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and Doom 3. Now that the Source Engine is officially supported on Linux, some Source-based games will be coming over too. Will we finally see Unreal Tournament 3 surface on Linux too? Only time will tell, but it is something we speculated back in 2008. Postal III is also being released this year atop the Source Engine and it will be offering up a native client. We have confirmed that Valve's latest and popular titles like Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, and Team Fortress 2 are among the first of the Steam Linux titles, similar to the Mac OS X support. The released Linux client should be available by the end of summer."

State Senator Caught Looking At Porn On Senate Floor 574

Everyone knows how boring a debate on a controversial abortion bill can get on the Senate floor. So it's no wonder that Florida State Sen. Mike Bennett took the time to look at a little porn and a video of a dog running out of the water and shaking itself off. From the article: "Ironically, as Bennett is viewing the material, you can hear a Senator Dan Gelber's voice in the background debating a controversial abortion bill. 'I'm against this bill,' said Gelber, 'because it disrespects too many women in the state of Florida.' Bennett defended his actions, telling Sunshine State News it was an email sent to him by a woman 'who happens to be a former court administrator.'"

FDA Approves Vaccine For Prostate Cancer 194

reverseengineer writes "The US Food and Drug Administration has given its first first approval for a therapeutic cancer vaccine. In a clinical trial 'involving 512 men, those who got Provenge (sipuleucel-T) had a median survival of 25.8 months after treatment, while those who got a placebo lived a median of 21.7 months. After three years, 32 percent of those who got Provenge were alive, compared with 23 percent of those who got the placebo. ... "The big story here is that this is the first proof of principle and proof that immunotherapy works in general in cancer, which I think is a huge observation," said Dr. Philip Kantoff, chief of solid tumor oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and the lead investigator in Dendreon's largest clinical trial for the drug. "I think this is a very big thing and will lead to a lot more enthusiasm for the approach."'"

Transparency also made it a LOT easier for people to learn about the boy butt-raping priesthood and the cover-up from high up. Certainly, this is more of the reason (to save the Church from embarrassment) than to protect anything (or anyone) else.
