Well, different from a central HVAC, where you set the thermostat and forget, with individual units I make a decision when to turn on and in which rooms. In the end, I only use cooling when temp gets higher than 26C (79F), and only on rooms being used, taking care to close doors. I calculate in a given week I have a total of about 20 hours of AC running, give it or take it.

And only during summer, winters are mild enough that no heating is needed (it would be electric if needed, not propane or oil)

Weather turning warmer here in the south hemisphere, so there's more A/C. Should peak at some 200KWh at the height of summer.

And I telecommute, so I'm at home most of the time, but usually only one room has the A/C turned on (it's not central, but very efficient inverter split units on each important room)

Other costs are the refrigerator, lighting, TV gear, etc.

Oh, this is true for so many things ... Take eggs for instance. He or she who likes eggs and have never tried eggs from a small farm, with free-range chickens, have never really tasted an egg. It's a world apart.

I do just that, but with a twist: I like a latte, so instead of water I use milk. The rest of the procedure is the same. Works better with coarse grinding ...

The taste is amazing (if you like milk on your coffee, which I do)

Personally, I'm sick and tired of small theaters only offering you the 3D version of a given movie. I rather see it in normal 2D, without having to put up with dirty and inconvenient passive glasses, and dizziness in scenes with fast motion ...

At home, for gaming, with a good TV and glasses things might be different, but I'm not much of a gamer myself to justify the extra expense.
