anthemaniac writes: LiveScience is reporting that a huge comet impact — actually an air burst — wiped out the mammoths and many other creatures about 13,000 years ago. Evidence includes nanodiamonds and iridium (signs of an extraterrestrial object) at 50 spots across a wide area from California to Canada and Europe. Lack of a crater suggests the objects exploded above the surface, like the 1908 Tunguska event in Siberia.

An anonymous reader writes: In Dells latest blog they state: "At this time, we are not including any support for proprietary audio or video codecs that are not already distributed with Ubuntu 7.04. These include MPEG 1/2/3/4, WMA, WMV, DVD, Quicktime, etc. We are evaluating options for providing this support in the future"

Ubuntu better make it exceptionally easy for Dell customers to install these codecs or Dell's Linux could be a mitigated failure.

Not Straight writes: NVIDIA has issued an official response to the widespread complaints about the gaming performance of their GeForce cards under Vista. They're 'aware' of and monitoring nvidiaclassaction.org, but they have no plans to remove the Designed for Vista and Ready for Vista labeling from their products as requested by the site. Furthermore, they don't have a firm timeframe for delivering fully-compatible drivers. 'Over the coming weeks NVIDIA and our partners, along with the industry will continue to update Windows Vista drivers to ensure maximum performance on 3D applications and add feature support.' Until then, it looks like most gamers with GeForce cards will be best served by sticking with Windows XP.

When Firefox 2.0 was installed and then set as the default browser I found that url links from applications or within the OS, like in the help program, would not open up at all. Has anyone else had this issue? I find it odd that no one else would have caught this. Is this another ploy by MS? Or does it have something to do with the fact that I was running the 64bit version of Windows Vista and Firefox is a 32bit app? Perhaps it has something to do with security "features" not allowing it?"
