Maybe so, but when I was in college (early 90s) I recall considering getting one of those Apple Computer Loans for students, for around $3000. And that was the discounted price. So I'm not sure I would call that a "gift", when Amigas and PCs were definitely cheaper. Of course, I didn't get the loan. Runs Debian Wheezy. It's not quiet enough.

No it is not. Amtrak out here breaks down frequently, so is unpredictable on long trips. They put ypu on a bus when the train breaks down, which sucks. L.A. to San Diego on Amtrak is OK, but that's about it.
