I had an old PSOne LCD screen lying around and I thought I'd make a C64 laptop. Actually, it's more like a C64 PDA! It measures 6.5 x 6 x 1.5 inches (15.5 x 16.5 x 4 cm) when closed. It can run from an AC wall adapter or 6 NiMH AA batteries. The keyboard is hacked from a portable folding keyboard for a Jornada PDA which outputs RS-232. I'm using a PIC 16F88 to decode the signals and re-encode them to PS/2 (that was an ordeal to figure out).

btavshan writes: Despite the empassioned arguments on here previously suggesting that high Xbox360 failure rates were fictitious, it now seems there is some truth to the "my Xbox360 failed 15 times, zomg!" story. The Seattle Times reports today that Microsoft is extending the warranty coverage for the Xbox 360 from one year to three years in response to an "unacceptable" failure rate. As it has already been previously reported that the Xbox franchise is a profit loser for Microsoft, could this spell trouble in Redmond?

sodul writes: DailyTech has contacted several retailers to get the actual percentage of XBox failures. While Microsoft is claiming a 'normal' 3% rate, the retailers claim that one third of the XBox are breaking. This is the highest failure rate ever witnessed by the retailers while the other consoles like the PS3 have a less than 1% failure rate. This could explain The Man Who Went Through 11 Xbox 360s.

FridayBob writes: Yesterday, a Belgian newspaper published this article (translation) about a new car that runs on nothing but compressed air. Apparently, it can run for about 200km on a tank of air filled up to a pressure of 300 bar (4351 psi). Special filling stations can refill an empty tank in only 3 minutes, but the car can also refill itself in six hours using an electrical outlet and its own on-board compressor. The car was developed by MDI (lots of info), a company set up by French engineer, Guy Nègre (ex-Formula One), that makes its money by selling patents and manufacturing licenses. It will become available in Belgium some time next year for a minimum price of only EUR 4,000 ($5,402). The Indian company, Tata, have also bought a manufacturing license and plan to sell a model for as little as EUR 1,835 ($2,478). This Wikipedia article has some interesting information regarding the air engine. Until a good enough battery appears with which to run an electric car, this seems like an excellent solution.

It works by extending a shell cover to increase power collecting area when not in use. The speed is 30 mph and the range is 13 miles, but hey, it's solar. An anonymous reader writes: It looks like Samsung's new Q45 could be a real competitor to Apple's MacBook. The Samsung is finished in glossy black like the Apple, but weighs only 1.83kg compared the MacBook at 2.31kg. But when you consider that the Q45 is around the same price as the entry level MacBook and has 2GB RAM, DVD writer, PCMCIA slot and pretty much all the features that the Apple has, it begins to look very attractive.
