It's great that they have this Pooh Powered Tuk Tuk, but how green is it if they are driving it across the country on a publicity tour in a trailer towed behind a 12mpg pickup truck.
It isn't actually regular laser toner, however. Checks are printed with Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) toner which allows the routing number to be detected by a magnetic scanner.
Disney has nothing to do with The Lorax. Like How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Cat in the Hat, this is a Universal Pictures film. It is being produced by Universal's Illumination Entertainment, the same studio that did Despicable Me and Hop.
Once again, Slashdot links to a blog instead of the original source. The linked blog gets its evidence from a wiki page at http://www.elinux.org/Busybox_replacement_project
This page has a Q&A which clearly states that it is not a Sony project:
Q. Tim Bird, the proposer of this project, works for Sony. Is this a Sony project?
A. No. Although Tim is employed by Sony, he spends a portion of his employed time working on behalf of the embedded industry to improve Linux and encourage GPL compliance. As of February 2, 2012, Sony has not endorsed or agreed to support this project. This wiki page is for gathering information and project description information, to present to various companies to solicit support and resources for the project.
Q. Can Tim's creation of this proposal be used to infer anything about Sony's compliance record, future compliance intent, or other business practices?
A. Tim has only recently informed his management about this proposal, and Sony has not yet (as of 2/2/12) agreed to support it. So, "no, not really". Sony has a good compliance record, and has strong compliance policies in place. It has never been contacted by the SFC and has no expectation of being contacted by the SFC about any license violation of GPL software. Tim is doing this as part of his (paid for by Sony) role in the industry to address issues which inhibit the adoption of Linux in consumer electronics.
Casio Waveceptor FTW!
I know you're joking, but for those that don't remember, the rover was parked a fair distance away so that its TV camera could film the LM lifting off from the surface.
It wasn't a macro, it was an embedded Adobe Flash object.
This article seems to technical. Can someone summarize using a car analogy?
Caterpillar (the bulldozer company) used to have their logo carved in the dessert at their proving grounds west of Phoenix, AZ. Unfortunately, that area is now a housing development, and the logo is no longer visible.
I won't (can't) sign up until they support Google Apps for Domains users. We can't even use the +1 button yet.
They are building a glass enclosure for the shuttle where the Concord now sits. It will be inside and climate controlled. You can see concept art at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42555086/ns/technology_and_science-space/
If you go to the source at http://www.rug.nl/cit/hpcv/nieuws/touchscreen1 you will see that it wasn't created for teaching math at all (the blogspam linked from the story seems to have made that up). According to RUG: "the initial goal was to facilitate the scientists studying Geographic Information Systems and a research group that studies interaction methods for touch screens" GIS is a perfect application for this technology.

How about linking directly to the source, instead of to this blogspam: http://www.rug.nl/cit/hpcv/nieuws/touchscreen1
