Comment Re:University of Maryland, University College (Score 1) 433

I'm getting my CS degree from them right now, while working full-time. It's not great for learning, but if you already know how to program, you can definitely check the box there (and probably get a 4.0 to boot).

I disagree about the learning. I have had some great professors, and while almost all are adjunct, the bad ones were few and far between.

Comment UMUC (Score 1) 433

While it is a little pricey, UMUC (which started out as the distance education branch of UM College Park) has some good teachers and a great Computer and Information Science Program. Comparing notes with the local "State College" the classes are harder and regardless of an percieved online stigma, I am proud of my education. Full Disclaimer, I still have 8 classes to go until graduation. CJ

Florida Man Sues WikiLeaks For Scaring Him 340

Stoobalou writes "WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been accused of 'treason' by a Florida man seeking damages for distress caused by the site's revelations about the US government. From the article: 'David Pitchford, a Florida trailer park resident, names Assange and WikiLeaks as defendants in a personal injury suit filed with the Florida Southern District Court in Miami. In the complaint filed on 6th January, Pitchford alleges that Assange's negligence has caused "hypertension," "depression" and "living in fear of being stricken by another heart attack and/or stroke" as a result of living "in fear of being on the brink of another nuclear [sic] WAR."' Just for good measure, it also alleges that Assange and WikiLeaks are guilty of 'terorism [sic], espionage and treason.'"

Lego 'CubeDudes' By PIXAR Animator 34

An anonymous reader writes "PIXAR Animator Angus MacLane has created an incredible series of LEGO 'CubeDudes' modeled after beloved characters from sci-fi movies and comic books. From Star Wars heroes R2D2 and C-3PO to Toy Story's Buzz Lightyear and Jessie, the pixellated creations bear a remarkable likeness to their forebears. MacLane says, 'When I had a moment here and there I chip away at a few at a time. I'll have the body of one Dude and a head of another that I will be working on at the same time. It takes me about 10-15 minutes to make one CubeDude and I average about two a day.' The hardest part is the color palette — LEGO doesn't make purple bricks, so villains like Lex Luthor, The Joker, and Grimace are a challenge."
