'Coding' is not the be-all and end-all of 'good jobs'. Plumbing, carpentry, electrical...any one of a thousand other professions.

Do that first.

Of all the money spent on this program, I predict exactly 1 person will actually end up with a job as a 'coder'. (and he will suck at it)

That's a pipedream. Other than connections like the $20k per month T3 to Sprint where I used to work, I've never personally seen a connection that fast. Most of the country is still chugging along with 1.5 Mbps DSL at the max.

Are you high? Here in Redneckistan Virginia, I have 50/50 fiber. $50(?) month. Have not had less than 25/5 over the last decade, cable or fiber. Previous to that, in Flyover Nation Ohio, it was 10/2 and then 20/5.

What 'country/state/city' are you talking about?

Think back to 1965. What media do you still have that you can access? Paper, and analog hardcopy LP's maybe. LP, only if you still have a working player.

1975? Same
1985? Floppy disks. How many of those do you have that are still readable? And on what device? Gen 1 CD. Probably all toast.
1995? Gen 1 DVD. Again, probably toast.

Meanwhile, while cleaning out my parents house, a photo album, with pics of my grandmother partying in a club in Harlem in the '30s, is perfectly, instantly, readable.

Maybe a robot that can hunt down where all my missing socks go.

Actually, the dryer DOES eat them. Some years ago, my dryer died. Before tossing it, I took it apart to see what if anything could be salvaged. Switches, motor, etc.
Upon taking it all apart, there was a literal double handful of socks, outside the drum but inside the box. Along with a couple dollars in change, and a 1 dollar bill.
