An anonymous reader writes "The open source FPS Blood Frontier has now made their beta2 release. From the article: 'After many months of development, and massive amounts of input from the public, we are proud to present you with the new release of Blood Frontier, v0.85 (Beta 2). This new version totally redefines and improves the game in many ways, creating a whole new style that makes it almost nothing like its predecessor.'"

Submission + - Bush Official Freaks Over Net Neutrality (theregister.co.uk)

LukeCage writes: Things aren't looking good for net neutrality. Apparently a couple of monopolies now constitute "the free market", and an angry former-telecom-lobbyist-turned-Assistant-Secretary loses it at a tech conference.

Submission + - Mark Millar Says: Video Games are for Pedos

NateWolf writes: Recently Marvel Comic writer Mark Millar sat down with Newsarama for an interview about the finalization of Marvel's Civil War series. The interview goes normaly enough untill the end. When about questioned what else Millar 'had on the table' outside of comics he commented saying:

"Like all my pals, the TV and movie people have come calling and even the computer game people (which is weird because games are for pedos and I have no interest). Comics are my first love, but it would be crazy to turn down some of these gigs and so we're all biting at the moment. I've been developing King and Country as a TV thing as well as an original graphic novel, but my main area of interest is genre movies in Hollywood.

Are you kidding me? This is pretty odd coming from a guy who writes about superheros that are fan-worshiped by tons of kids around the world.

Submission + - Small IT Company Database Choices?

Alden writes: "I am part of a small IT company that serves individuals and small businesses in our local area. We need a database solution to store and manage customer records, trouble tickets, work orders, and billing information. We need the ability to create, view, and edit records locally and remotely. The client software should also be able to generate invoices suitable for printing or emailing. Our shop is not partial to any one platform or OS; we have Windows, Mac, (PPC and Intel), as well as some Linux. The database server will be either Linux or Windows, but the client machines may be any of those mentioned above. I don't have much experience with databases, but I'm not afraid to learn. Do I need to learn databases from the ground up? Or is there a pre-packaged product (prefereably FOSS) that fits the bill?"

Submission + - Immunity Releases Wi-Fi Hacking Tool

00*789*00 writes: ZDNet has a story about the public launch of Immunity's Silica, a portable hacking device that can search for and join 802.11 (Wi-Fi) access points, scan other connections for open ports, and automatically launch code execution exploits from a built-in exploit platform.
It's funny. Laugh.

Submission + - Genes Linked to Teen Delinquency

sporkme writes: "An Australian study has found a link between antisocial behavior and specific genes, independent of parents' emotional influence.

"Our data shows that marital conflict is not a major culprit," said epidemiologist Nick Martin, from the Queensland Institute of Medical Research. "Rows have often been blamed for ratbag behaviour but we've got no evidence to suggest that they are the problem." Researchers, including several from the US, studied 1,045 pairs of twins and their children to see whether the link between parental fighting and kids' conduct problems was genetic or environmental. They found that children of an identical twin had the same levels of behavioural problems regardless of whether it was their parent or their parent's identical sibling that had marital rows.
The study was published in the journal Child Development, which is available by subscription."

Submission + - Craigslist censors MS Commentary

Jacques Surveyer writes: "For some strange reason Craigslist is censoring the following promotion of my weblog: How People Ready is Office 2007 ? My blog looks at and lists 5 major reviewers And finds they agree on one thing — Office 2007 has a significant learning curve. The promo points to the article Anti-People Ready What makes this especially strange is that another promo for the same blog which does the same type of review for Windows Vista — How Good Is Microsoft's new Vista OS gets through with no problems. I am not sure what Craigslist is up to or why the first is rejected(including several variations in wording) and the second is not. Craigslist should not care one whit that my blog says reviewers find Office 2007 hard to use."
