Comment Great... (Score 3, Interesting) 199

These are the same fucking retards that can't even properly secure evidence when Wynns government decided to violate the data protection laws and deleted not only primary, but backup data when there was a standing warrant regarding to the massive scandal relating to the gas plants. You'll have to excuse me if I don't have any faith in the information provided at all. Hell, their general force is in 80/90's era computer technology.

What's gonna get good is that they pulled a blanket seizure with a warrant that was for specific data. That's a no-no guys, the judge stated one thing you stupid idjits did something else. I'm going to hazard it'll get to court and the entire thing will be thrown out because they overstepped the bounds of the original seizure warrant.

Comment AACS license (Score 1) 107

But, what if everybody can qualify as a disc publisher just by handing over a disc?

That's what AACS is supposed to prevent. BD players are supposed to require BDMV discs to use AACS, and the AACS license imposes a fee per title plus other requirements that likely include not doing this very thing.

Comment UMG v. MP3.com (Score 1) 107

NO. Sony v. Universal (and subsequent rulings) have made it clear, it does not matter where a backup comes from, as long as you dont share it.

Where do you get that? I see UMG v. MP3.com which decided exactly the opposite. The backup has to be made by you from a genuine copy, not transmitted by someone else through the Internet.

All those useless apps have vastly superior equivalents on other platforms.

Which is fine so long as you already own a device of one of these "other platforms" in your living room. "Smart" TVs and "smart" BD players are convenient for people who happen not to, such as households with one PC that is in another room.

Comment Commissions are widespread (Score 1) 143

if everyone [took a percent of gross] it would be unfeasible.

Everyone does take a percent of gross: Google on Google Play Store, Amazon on Amazon Appstore, Apple on App Store, Nintendo on eShop, Sony on PlayStation Store, and Microsoft as I mentioned above. The market for physical goods is little different: Amazon takes a commission of sellers' revenue on Amazon.com, and eBay and PayPal take final value fees.

That's a few maya licenses

As O-Zone asked in the Numa Numa song, "Maya who?" If a studio is trying to grow organically from a hobby into a business, is there a reason it can't just use Blender to create assets for Unreal Engine?

Comment Hobby games in the living room (Score 0) 143

The fact is Game development is rapidly moving into the hobby space much like home studios did to music and youtube is doing to TV.

Except there's a difference. Anyone can burn hobby music to a CD-R and play it in a stereo. Anyone can burn hobby video to a DVD+R and play it in any brand of DVD player. The game market is qualitatively different. The major consoles lock out hobby games, and PCs are uncommon in the living room. Some of this can be traced to certain bad decisions made by the North American video game industry in the first half of the 1980s.

Microsoft takes a lot more than that for Xbox Live Marketplace (for Xbox 360 and Xbox One), Windows Phone Store, and Windows Store (for Windows 8 and Windows RT).

I'm sorry, but I agree with that. If you on the UK want us to dam up our rivers and build roads out to geothermal areas and tap into our resources, and raise our local power prices in the process, all for the benefit of the UK, our government better damn well profit as much as possible from it and reduce our taxes / improve our services in exchange for that.

Unfortunately, xB and xD do not agree.
