Journal Journal: 4-1 is better than 1-5 1

But props to the Rams and thier fans.
I was at the game in St. Louis yesterday and had a blast tailgating and at the game (at least till the second quarter)
Possibly the loudest crowd I've ever been in.

The Gimp

Journal Journal: Vasectomy 3

Not funny.
I believe they are punishment for daring to have 4 kids.
this all falls under TMI but...
At least I've followed all the advice from the doctor so I haven't had any swelling or infection.
The punishment part is not the pain which just feels like a pulled groin, but in the boredom.
No lifting, no yardwork, no nothing but sitting on my ass for the past 3 days. That and they shave you before the proceedure so you have to deal with hair growing back in sensitive areas.
it sucks.
waaa!

Journal Journal: Raiders Win 52-25

Next week Buffalo. This will probably be a loss.
Then St.Louis. I will be there. Will you?

United States

Journal Journal: Go Raiders!!! 3

Football season is finally underway.
Big win for the Silver & Black against former division rivals. Unfortunately I wasn't able to watch the game because It wasn't being broadcast here in Illinois. I don't have Sunday Ticket because it would be a waste of money since I work nights and need to sleep during the day. I suppose I could tape it, but I hate watching taped games unless they are old classics.
Anyway Here's hoping all your favorite teams did well Unless they are in the AFC west or the RAMS. I had a tough time with the Denver/StLouis game. I hate the Bronco's, thier fans and all who look like them. The same goes for the Rams and their front running wannabe selves.
Fortunately I was able to watch what may have been the last Sampras/Agassi match. It could have been a little better but everyone has a bad day. Pete was on top of his game today, Agassi was a little slow. It will be a while before Men's tennis gets anyone worth watching like those two.

Microsoft

Journal Journal: Call me an idiot. 3

But I started messing around with .net server this week and was pleasantly surprised.
A little background, I've been in the technical support field for over 10 years. The first server OS I worked with was Xenix, supporting a canned app for a chain of florists. I've gone through Novell from Personal Netware to 5.1 (still haven't worked with 6). All the incarnations of MS "server" and Happily install Linux at a client site when I get the opportunity to.
I run win2k on the desktop at home but all my usenet binaries downloading, irc, email and development stuff are done on my various linux boxes.
Anyway, I signed up to download rc1 of .net server because i'm pretty sure I will be installing it and supporting it somewhere sometime. I was pleasantly surprise by its almost plainess.
1. the install, didn't quibble on any of the hardware on my HP lpr netserver with a rs/8 attached. Everything looked like the win2k install
2. Fluffy XP desktop had to go, opted for the "classic" windows desktop
3. it boots fast! of course after the server HW takes about 5 minutes to initialize before loading the OS.
4. Nothing is enabled by default. No webservices, ftp, smtp,pop3.
5. Did I say POP3? yes they actually include a POP3 mailserver. Does this mean they are admitting exchange is a failure? I have yet to test that feature to anylength. but it does integrate with AD and all the other stuff.
6. Compatability mode for apps developed on older platforms. I don't know how well this will work, but if it's good a patch needs to be made for Win2k.

I still have some beefs with it.
1. Still has the same POS EULA and product activation that winxp has, wont be a problem in a big corporate enviro, but might cause some problems in smaller shops.
2. Still see no reason to have a GUI enabled by default on a server OS. needs to be a way to turn it off or load it. CLI at the console would be great, especially if you don't want to be there long. Just having the OPTION would rule.
3. still runs IIS, havn't tried apache on it, but might once it gets closer to release date and there are more builds or source tailored for it.

Eh who knows it might sell a few copies when it gets released.

Journal Journal: New comments.pl 1

Well the new code for comments.pl sucks ass. Makes it hard to find new user journals which are in most cases infinitly more interesting than any articles that are ever posted.
In protest I trolled all the journal entries I could find with my 10 post/24hr limit. (yet another lame implementation)
If it was you I heckled, it was nothing personal... unless you are that guy that just got his first girlfriend.
