I think your focusing a little too narrow. It's almost like supporting the argument that the Mac is still too expensive. At one point it was a very valid argument. Today not so much as long as you are comparing like products.

Wether or not a switch to a FOSS solution is viable or not really depends on the type of office. I agree that departments like Finance are not candidates at this point. However many call centers might be able to go this route. In my company we have a three person finance dept. However the customer service dept is 40 people strong. Our CRM system is web based and the only other need the CS group has is an office suite and the ability to generate pdfs. The switch was pretty painless. The Collections department is next which will net us another 20 or so users. Can we make this change with HR? Maybe, but it might not be worth it. They are still using the desktop payroll software. If ADP were eventually to force them to moving to the web then yes. Could I mandate such a change probably but I don't want to deal with the backlash. I pick and choose the battles. Bottom line is overall we have cut Windows desktop usage by over 70%.

As more apps go web or cloud based it's going to be possible to migrate more and more of them to a FOSS thin client type solution.

I personally believe once you are gone you're worm food but I don't force my beliefs on anyone else. I'm just saying that if you actually witnessed someone die of ALS I find it hard to believe you would want to stretch out your life if you contracted the disease. IMHO to do so would be much more selfish than giving up your organs and ending your life. I have a wife and two young children and I if available I'd take the organ donor option rather than to torture them over a slow demise.

Where I disagree with you is that making that decision is truly suicide. I guess we will see how the courts feel about it...

Many people in the ALS community do not believe that Hawking has ALS. Or is the most atypical case ever seen. Most people die within a few years of diagnosis.

Or would you rather give life to someone else and save everyone the immense heartache? Suicide is supposed to be a selfish act. This guys request to donate his organs is most definitely not selfish.

If you had the death sentence that ALS is you would not want to 'eek out as much time' as you could. Sure in the early stages up to the point where you end up wheel chair ridden you may feel so. You get the the point where your brain is functioning just fine but you no longer can control anything. Your family is helpless watching you deteriorate. They now spend all their time and money taking care of you.

I'd like to look into your eyes as you are finally suffocating because you no longer have muscle control and you can't breath anymore. At that point I'd like to know if you really thing the little extra life you eeked out was worth it.

Your right on the mark. I live in a affluent New England town with one of the highest rated school systems. I was disgusted with the school system this past year. This year in first grade we got a young (mid 20 yr old) teacher who did nothing but stifle creativity. When I asked about art and music she said that that's what the 'specials' are for. The specials are art, gym, library, music. They only do each one once a week. It was a really struggle to get through the year. I saw the spark in these kids eyes extinguished. Talking to the principal and superintendent of schools yielded no results.

Last year my daughter had an amazing Kindergarten teacher. One that has been around for 40 years. She constantly bucked the system by really focusing on creativity for the kids. And when they worked hard they were taken outside for extra recess or other activities. She ignored the principal and directives from the school and I tell you the kids that came out of her class are amazing. It's a shame that she is a rare breed these days and I fear the future generations will have no teachers like her....

I have been using Sage's Fundrasing 100 for the last 8 years. It is a decent product. However Sage is killing it off and hopefully migrating their customer base to their Millennium product. So far I'm not thrilled with Millennium but they are making changes to it to accommodate the functionality that FR100 users are accustom to. Something to look at as an option.

Another option is to look at GiftWorks. It is a good program for small to medium nonproftis. If you are on the large side of mediums it may not work well for you.

Citations? I've been deploying Plone sites for 8 years now. Plone was a giant step forward from doing it all in Zope CMS. I'm also not sure what you consider are huge resource hog? The only time I ever see even the slightest hesitation is when loading portal_view_customizations.

Customization is simple and these days doesn't require much if any modifications of the templates. It appears that you have not taken the time to use the product correctly or you wouldn't be slinging fud like that.

I think the GP is wrong. I'll bet you find that in most cases people are hooking back up with high school sweethearts or other long lost boy/girl friends. So these people are not "strangers". Still not excuse for unprotected sex though.
