Comment Re:/.er bitcoin comments are the best! (Score 4, Insightful) 253

People want to know why the rich keep getting richer? It is because they don't deal in currency, they deal in assets. Currency is only used when converting one asset for another. Most Currency is inflationary, meaning if you hold it, you lose. This is such a little known fact of life. BitCoin, should it survive will ultimately be deflationary currency, meaning it gains value the longer you hold it.

Think of it this way, you work hard, when you're young, you can retire if you save anything, because deflationary currency becomes an asset. But that doesn't bode well for the rich n powerful, or politicians who need a dependent class of people to take care of.

Actually it doesn't have to match anything. It has to match what the market in Argentina bears. And since Bitcoin is deflationary, while Pesos are Inflationary they counter each other very well. By having Bitcoins, the average Argentine can increase wealth by performing services and charging BitCoins for them.

In terms of monetary terms, withholding payment in Inflationary currency (Peso) is a net gain, and unless you are paid in cash (or equivalent) immediately, Pesos are a losing proposition for workers. On the other hand, withholding payment in a deflationary currency (BitCoin) is bad for the employer, and good for the worker.

This will result in better economy for Argentina, at least for workers.

You say that like it is a bad thing. It isn't necessarily a bad thing, just different.

I'd say having unaccountable private enterprise (the Fed) in charge of money supply has, at least partially, been responsible for dismantling the middle class, and the accumulation of wealth by the few at the top.

Basically that governments can't increase the money supply arbitrarily.

Our (US) government can't increase or decrease the money supply. The Federal Reserve, a privately held company does that. You want to know why we're screwed? Because only a handful of people have control of the entire US economy, and a large part of the world economy.

however, it makes pork barreling much harder. if they want to protect something or ban something then they need to quote why it's bad.

I don't understand what the fuss is about though, like, isn't this how you would expect EPA to be set up in the first place? like let's say they ban one kind of a plastic and give green light to another kind of plastic, wouldn't the public have the right to know why they think the other is harmful and the other is not? if they don't tell, then it's exactly for this reason why USA is full of conspiracy idiots, creationists etc...

Russian Cargo Spacehip Declared Lost 108

schwit1 writes: The Russians have declared lost the Progress freighter that had been launched to the ISS yesterday. They never could regain control of the craft, plus it was in an incorrect orbit. Moreover, the U.S. Air Force has detected debris nearby, suggesting a significant failure of some kind. The Russians are now considering delaying the next manned launch, scheduled for May 26, while they investigate this failure. Both Soyuz and Progress use some of the same systems, including the radar system that failed on Progress, and they want to make sure the problem won't pop up on the manned mission. At the same time, they are also considering advancing the launch date of the next Progress to ISS from August 6. Based on these reports, I think they might swap the launch dates for the two flights. A Dragon is scheduled to go to ISS in between these missions, though that schedule could be changed as well to accommodate the Russian plans.

You want the pedophile shuffler back? Really?

His resignation was timed to deflect attention from that issue, coming as it was the very week HBO's documentary linking him (and his soon-to-be-sainted predecessor) directly to the pedophile scandals in the US, Ireland, and elsewhere came out.

And it worked. Instead of public outcry at the documented link between the then-reigning popes and the pedophile coverup, everyone was wetting their pants over a shiny new pope who wasn't to the right of Genghis Khan.

That said, it takes a really hardcore right-wingnut to want Ratzinger back.
