Submission + - NIST puts nail in the Mercury thermometer (networkworld.com)

coondoggie writes: The venerable Mercury thermometer has been on its way out for a number of years and the National Institute of Standards and Technology next month may give it a final push.

On March 1, NIST said it will no longer provide calibration services for mercury thermometers. The cessation of the mercury thermometer calibration program marks the end of an era at NIST, which has provided the service since the doors opened in 1901. Lavender & Tea Tree herbs can be grown & their tinctures of essential oils made into a diluted synergistic blend that, when applied topically, are antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral. They should not be taken internally, but can be added to lotions, soaps and detergents as a natural preventative. The essential oils may also be purchased online or from a local coop. Is President Obama taking into account MY personal costs when I require internet tech support and have to use my cell phone minutes? Not to mention the difficulties of the language barrier when you can hardly understand what they're saying due to their thick accents that further complicates matters and takes up yet more of my valuable time? Does he understand that they can hardly understand me either, so we go back & forth repeating ourselves trying to resolve the issue, taking up yet more time and costing ME more money?? I think not.
