Comment Somebody gonna get Sued! (Score 1) 197

if I were lightsquared, I'd be hiring lawyers and start sueing GPS manufacturers. From the sound of it, those manufacturers are stepping all over lightsquared's (very expensive) spectrum. This is a physical, limited, resource and GPS manufacturers are both using it and preventing lightsquared (the rightful owners) from using it. Lightsquared needs to start asking for daily damages until the GPS manufacturers start doing proper filtering of their receivers.

Along with that, I honestly want lightsquared to succeed. I think the only hope for the US wireless market is the kind of use-agnostic bandwidth that lightsquared, clearwire, and sprint are pushing. Otherwise, AT&T and Verizon are simply going to lay siege to Sprint, TMobile and any small carriers until we have a duapoly.

Comment It's Broke (Score 1) 839

How can anyone say TV isn't broken? There's a HUGE market for helping people consume video content, on TVs, computers, and about everything else possible.

TVs either need to go one of two ways:
  1. Become just a screen. An HDM input and maybe a bad speaker and thats it. Accept that TVs are bad at dealing with the content.
  2. Applize. Make the TV very good at handling the content. Finding it. Argregating it. Sharing it. Etc.

I'm personally for #1. Lets stop kidding ourselves that the TV is ever going to be good at content. Give me a good screen with an HDMI in and I'll handle producing the content for it.

I've also looked at the boogie board rip. Seems like a simple way to take digital notes though the pdf format probably makes for an extra step to get the file into a note indexing tool (i.e. onenote). I've mainly looked at the boogie board rip (http://myboogieboard.com). The noteslate (http://www.noteslate.com/) looks interesting but I think it's a dead project. Anyone used a boogie board that cares to comment?

Comment ipad as a laptop tablet (Score 1) 425

There's an ipad app (don't have the link right now) which enables the ipad as a touch screen as a laptop. I may go back to school in the future and have considered this approach. The laptop goes in my backpack and the ipad connects wirelessly to it. I could take notes in one-note (or any other windows program) right onto the ipad. Any opinions from the rest of the slashdot crowd?

Personally, I'm semi-excited about the idea of a Windows 8 transformer tablet (similar to the other asus transformers) running on an ivy bridge CPU. It could be a solid daily driver when paired with a remotely accessable desktop for the heavy lifting.

That said, a windows 7 tablet running an atom CPU with no keyboard is rediculious. It's not a computer and it's not a tablet. It's a still-born bastard.

Ultimately though, I'm not convinced that an iPad plus a solid Windows 8 ivy bridge laptop next year won't be the best of all worlds.

Is it just me, or did Symantec take a normal spear phishing attack, by the usual suspects, with the usual tools, and turn it into an advertisement? They gave it a name, wrote a paper on it, made sure it was clear CHEMICALS were involved, and then sent it to the news outlets. I guess this is only to be expected given how much publicity they got from their stuxnet and duqu analysis. Oh well. *sigh*

I've always felt redbox was overpriced. I could get DVDs for a dollar a day at blockbuster who actually maintained a full store with employees. The $1/day was a simple formula which is why I tolerated it. But, considering I can't get my wife to return a movie in anything under a few days. I think I'm probably better off just getting a 48hr streaming license from amazon or waiting for the in-mail DVD from netflix.

Seems pretty even keeled to me. It's not demanding a lot. It simply reflects a few things he's passionate about and then helps people understand him. Can't fault a guy for saying he gets hot at night and is alergic to cat.
