Comment Re:They're artificial limitations. That's the prob (Score 1) 1634

I agree that some people might run into the scenario for the reasons you describe. Unfortunately, I don't feel these people are justfied to complain when they become disappointed with whatever product they purchased.

I never run into an instance where after I buy a product I am disappointed by it's feature-set. Why? Because before I purchase something, I do research and inform myself, which is a step usually skipped by the average consumer. Then these individuals just bitch to make themselves feel better, to ease their mind about their bad uninformed decision.

People just like to bitch. I myself find great annoyance with people who bitch about their own uninformed decisions as they themselves cause the large majority of their dissatisfaction. Bitching when one is uninformed has no basis in reality as there is zero ground to stand on to back up arguments and gripes. Maybe people need to understand to hold themselves accountable for their own dissatisfaction. Then and only then will I become a more satisfied person. Until then I will continue to lose faith in humanity and the troubles people unknowingly bring upon themselves.

+5 Insightful???? WTF? You're a douchbag. If that scenario happened, it would be because the damn consumer LIKED the product and it's accompanying business model. If you don't like the product of said company, don't buy it and for our sake, don't go bitching all over the interwebs how you feel it's so UNJUST that a business run their business differently from the way you would choose to. CUSTOMERS drive the success of a product. CLEARLY people aren't too unhappy with the way Apple is conducting business. Shut up.

I openly admit to not reading ALL comments prior to posting this, but.... I think the top level posters so far are missing the real issue here. These people are in Jail for a reason. Let's not treat them to things they do not deserve.

Jail should be a place to serve a sentance and to hopefully let the the criminals reflect on their crime and hopefully learn a lesson. It SHOULDN'T be a place where criminals get to hang out and play board games. That's just ridiculous. Yes, D&D and any other aformentioned board games are harmless, but enabling someone to have fun in a place of punishment is just downright absurd. I know people who have been to jail, and while they say it was absolutely no fun at all, their behavior after their sentance really didn't change.

The system is broken. We can't let people forget the reason they're being punished...

If they are not treated to any entertainment at all, they will become depressed and kill themselves. Clearly, this is not the intention of jail either, is it?

You assume a lot here. First you assume that they will become depressed. They may or may not, but speaking from my past experience in regards to my own bouts of depression, I have learned from my depression how to become a happier, more wholesome individual. Killing myself may have been an option, but I promise you the majority of depressed people don't just go kill themselves. And depressed or not, we can assume they're in jail for a reason. Good, feel bad about it. Ask yourself if doing what you did was worth the punishment...

I understand that you have some sort of sadistic need to see these people suffer, but there are limits to how you can treat people (yes, inmates are people too), both stemming from psychology and international law.

Now you're just name calling; a childish move. I wouldn't say not giving inmates entertainment is an act of treating people poorly. People need to learn from their mistakes, and if they're not, then the time, effort, and money to put them in jail in the first place was a waste of time, and they won't be any better of a person when they leave there.

Mozilla Rolls Out Firefox 3.6 RC, Nears Final 145

CWmike writes "Mozilla has shipped a release candidate build of Firefox 3.6 that, barring problems, will become the final, finished version of the upgrade. Firefox 3.6 RC1, which followed a run of betas that started in early November, features nearly 100 bug fixes from the fifth beta that Mozilla issued Dec. 17. The fixes resolved numerous crash bugs, including one that brought down the browser when it was steered to Yahoo's front page. Another fix removed a small amount of code owned by Microsoft from Firefox. The code was pointed out by a Mozilla contributor, and after digging, another developer found the original Microsoft license agreement. 'Amusingly enough, it's actually really permissive. Really the only part that's problematic is the agreement to "include the copyright notice ... on your product label and as a part of the sign-on message for your software product,"' wrote Kyle Huey on Mozilla's Bugzilla. Even so, others working on the bug said the code needed to be replaced with Mozilla's own."

EA Shutting Down Video Game Servers Prematurely 341

Spacezilla writes "EA is dropping the bomb on a number of their video game servers, shutting down the online fun for many of their Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 games. Not only is the inclusion of PS3 and Xbox 360 titles odd, the date the games were released is even more surprising. Yes, Madden 07 and 08 are included in the shutdown... but Madden 09 on all consoles as well?"
