Comment My Reason - Loudness War (Score 3, Informative) 405

I recently ordered a copy of 'Them Crooked Vultures' on Vinyl, sounds fantastic! With the Loudness Wars [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_wars ] going on for the last while, music is becoming harder to listen to with all the compression, you lose the dynamics of the recording. I've recently gotten back into vinyl because of this. My ears have been thanking me ever since!

I also remember in 1993 you could get a WWW 'phonebook' which listed all the available websites in known existence. I would mainly log on to find more door games/apps for the BBS I was still running at the time. heh.

I used to, but then all my visits to them always involved troubleshooting something, while the rest of the family is downstairs chatting and eating, I am stuck up at the computer. Heaven forbid if anything else goes wrong or you move icons around, they never let you hear the end of it. So once Vista finally came around I saw my chance, and said, don't know anything about it, call a support tech, other option is Linux. Needless to say I now longer get support calls, and can actually enjoy holidays again.

Comment Canadian (Score 1) 1233

I can tell you as a Canadian, people may harp on about the metric system, but I can assure you its much more messed up then that. Ask the average Canadian the following: How tall are you - they answer in feet and inches. Size of foot - inches. Distance from point A to B, even though they might know the distance in KM's 99% of us will answer in a time factor, oh, its about 24 hours from Halifax to Toronto. Rainfall - mm Snow - cm Horse Power instead of CC's. He threw the ball 10 feet. Soda pop - litre Milk - litre So for most of us, the conversion to metric in everyday life is a mish mash. :)
