Comment Get a Canon with CHDK (Score 1) 106

A large portion of the canon cameras support CHDK (canon hack devkit). One of the nice features included in this is motion detection. This requires no external components to get it working, as it uses the CCD for triggering. There are numerous scripts that use CHDK to implement delays, time laps photo sequences or other funky actions. Most of the supported cameras are fast enough to capture lightning.

It'll cool your feet in the winter when it works at its best and in the summer the difference between warm sidewalks and the inside of the boot will not generate any electricity. This means that when you don't mind to wear it, it does not work. When it works, it causes so much discomfort that you choose not to... Mmm.

My views are only from the perspective of owning a WM phone, but the things that I noticed in my own phone (Motorola MPX220) and the HTC WM phone of my dad is that WM is just too much like a desktop OS. This brings round problems like start-up times in excess of a minute and no alarms when the phone is turned off. It must've been an option to start a development from scratch at the time (and it might even be a development from scratch), but the WM OS behaves too much like a desktop OS to ever be successful in embedded applications. Hacking this around will always lag behind the competitors. Starting from scratch could fix it for them, since they usually manage to heave a huge bucket of money into the marketing machine and haul the product through the ditch. They'll be out of the game for a couple of years then.

My photo policy is even more verbose. I have an 8GB card onboard with the camera set to multiple shots. Taking photo's of family/kids, I just keep the shutter button pressed down and weed through the mass of poor photo's. The number of briliant photo's that emerge is great to see. Photo's one will never be able to capture if you wait for it.

Submission + - How BBC copied my iPhone App

amprab writes: A few months back I created an iPhone app called "The Cool Wall" for
the very popular and one of the greatest shows ever Topgear. I was
selling the app for $1.99 After a week or so after the app went on
iTunes I got an email from BBC saying that this was an infringement on
the rights and I either have to make the app free or take it down. So
I agreed to make the app free but apparently that was not enough for
BBC and they asked me to take it down completely. Since I had no other
option I took that app down.
Now a couple of days back they have launched the exact same app
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-cool-wall/id346833718?mt=8 (Same
name, same concept/UI) The only thing that they have done is change
the colors, create new buttons/icons and change how few things behave.
But the basic work flow of the app is exactly the same. You are
presented with a car, you determine whether it is SERIOUSLY UNCOOL",
"UNCOOL", "COOL" or "SUB-ZERO" and the app tells whether you are
correct or not. Now I am definitely annoyed by this but the thing that
really makes me angry is that they haven't even tried to make it
different. They could have implemented it in so many different ways,
made it better in so many ways but they haven;t done that. And to be
honest I was really expecting more from BBC.

Anyways I wanted to share my experience with everyone; let everyone know
how small developers get bullied by these big companies, it is so
frustrating. I hope this is the right outlet for my experience.

PS: I created another app called "The Stig" based on the same show. I
had to take that down too, wont be surprised to see that also on the
app store!!
