Submission + - Amazon "Deal" Goes Sour

Andy writes: "In the wee hours of December 23rd, a member of the DVDtalk forums stumbled across a glitch in an Amazon.com DVD promotion. It was a buy-one-get-one-free deal, but at the check-out the promotion was applied twice, resulting in a free order! Others began posting the same results — some ordered dozens of DVD sets with free shipping for a total check-out price of $0.00. The glitch was corrected later that day. Despite doubts that orders would be allowed to go through completely, shipping notifications were sent and packages were received. The thread degenerated into squabbles on ethics and was closed.

That was the end of the story until yesterday, when forum members who took advantage of the pricing glitch began receiving e-mails from Amazon that they would be charged the correct amount if they did not send back their orders unopened. Some are claiming that this action goes against Amazon's own policy (see Confirming Prices) and threaten to dispute any further charges."

Submission + - Grand Canyon no longer 6,000+ years old

boingo82 writes: "
HOW OLD IS THE GRAND CANYON? PARK SERVICE WON'T SAY — Orders to Cater to Creationists Makes National Park Agnostic on Geology
Grand Canyon National Park is not permitted to give an official estimate of the geologic age of its principal feature, due to pressure from Bush administration appointees.
Also,
Park officials have defended the decision to approve the sale of Grand Canyon: A Different View, claiming that park bookstores are like libraries, where the broadest range of views are displayed. ... "As one park geologist said, this is equivalent of Yellowstone National Park selling a book entitled Geysers of Old Faithful: Nostrils of Satan,"
How very sad. Thank you Bush Administration and Creationists for deliberately dumbing down our country and its citizens. If they are selling that book at the gift shoppe, they should also sell the alternate book explaining how and when the FSM carved the Grand Canyon with His noodly appendage."
