I guess I didn't explain the whole day. The upside is that I can do personal stuff in between, like run to the store, jump in the pool, take a long lunch, watch the kids ballgame, etc. The point I am making is that instead of a contiguous 8 hour day, it is spread out along my awake time.

As a remote worker, my work day is stretched like taffy. I wake up at 6am and check for "Rome is burning" emails. After a cup of coffee I respond to emails from our offshore team. Real work starts around 8am and ends around 5pm. Email and other small tasks continue until 10pm bedtime. /. reading occurs intermittently from 6am to 10pm.

Sorry to bust the truck love, but if you want a real truck get the GMC/Chevrolet 3500.

Yes, I chose the basement option. However, it was a bit ambiguous as to whether it was the home office or the subterranean level of a corporate building (think Office Space).

The discussion hasn't touched much on home offices. I have full power, but I also pay the bills. My problem is that I work in the basement and do not have dual zone heat. If I want the basement warm, I have to heat the whole house.

So, I am kind of in the same boat as office minions but for different reasons. The solution is the same - space heater under the desk.

I don't recall all the details. You can read the linked article for insight. I see your point about the spiral, so now I too am wondering exactly how it worked. The bottom line is it was faster, but not 7x faster. It was a good idea at the time since CD rotational speeds had been maxxed out.

That is too funny. I just watched MiB with my son last weekend. I laughed when I heard that line because it was so long ago, but people still keep doing the same thing.

At least with physical media you have control. If you bought it on itunes you are locked into the Apple-verse for life.

That reminds me of a Kenwood CD drive I bought for my computer. It used a multi-beam technology called TrueX to parellelize reading. It cost more than most readers at the time, but only about 20% more. The technology worked well if you were ripping the whole disc.

How stupid can they be? I didn't even buy into the blu-ray hype. I only got a blu-ray player recently because a relative gave us their old one. I went out and bought one blu-ray disc (Prometheus). The movie glitched out halfway with audio and video garbage. Luckily it came with a DVD and online copy. It is the first and last blu-ray disc I will buy.

Sony is still angry about losing the beta-vhs war and is now fighting a battle nobody cares about anymore. Just like discs, the whole company is obsolete.
