The Fujitsu Stylistic ranges from 1.7 to 1.9 lbs. The iPad 2 is 1.33 lbs. At worst, this is 42% heavier, not "1.5-2x heavier". Fujitsu claims over 8 hours of battery life on their midrange model (1.9lbs total with that battery). Apple claims 10 hours, about 25% more. These numbers make the iPad look incrementally better, not insanely great.

Submission + - Linux devicemaker sued in first U.S. test of GPL

An anonymous reader writes: For the first time in the U.S., a company is being taken to court for a GPL violation. The Software Freedom Law Center has sued Monsoon Multimedia over alleged GPL violations in the Hava, a place- and time-shifting TV recorder similar to the SlingBox. Interestingly, Monsoon Multimedia is run by a highly experienced international lawyer named Graham Radstone. According to his corporate biography, Radstone has an MA in Law from the University of Cambridge, England, and held the top legal spot at an unnamed "$1 billion private multinational company." He also reportedly held top management positions with Philip Morris, Pfizer, and DHL. Sounds like the makings of a good old legal donnybrook ahead.

Submission + - HCI blogger discusses the widspread misuse of mice

An anonymous reader writes: Recently launched blog "The New Interface Advocate," has an entry about how mice are being applied to situations they are intrinsically poorly suited for. It also has an interesting proposal for how to keep most of the current paradigm of GUIs and still take advantage of the other control devices, such as the keyboard.

Submission + - Gonzales denies Americans have habeas rights

TrumpetPower! writes: "This past Thursday, in response to questioning by Senator Arlen Specter (R, PA), US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales told the Senate Judiciary committee that ``The Constitution doesn't say every individual in the United States or citizen is hereby granted or assured the right of habeas corpus. '' The exchange between Mr. Gonzales and Senator Specter has received virtually no attention from the press; Google News currently has all of a dozen or so stories. Habeas corpus is the right, in America guaranteed by Article I, Section 9, of the Constitution, which ensures that people are not unjustly imprisoned and tried."
