Have you tried any of those apps on an ipad? They are really dumbed down and extremely frustrating to anyone that has experience with the full flegged versions of any of those packages. I got a keyboard and wireless mouse for my ipad (jailbroken of course for simultaneous use) and tried my darned best to make it replace my laptop with apps such as you described and all kinds of jailbreak hacks. It drove me to near madness always getting near what I wanted to accomplish done or getting it done with 5 extra steps each time. I switched to the surface 3 and have never looked back - it is so gratifying being able to run real software for content creation but being able to switch to tablet mode for consumption.

You have to keep in mind that Apple does not want you creating content on the ipad, thus it is not at all optimized for it. If you question this for a second, consider why in the world you would need to jailbreak the darn thing just to use a mouse and keyboard. Eventually the surface will force Apple to make a content capable tablet, and who knows, it could be better than M$'s. Until then, M$ has the most advanced and capable tablet currently in my mind.

agreed. pay article, but I suspect the summary may be leaving some detail out here. I'm not sure why this would be an issue at all. Pixel 4000 is last one on screen one - pixel 4001 is first on screen 2. Giant jumbo tron screens are modular - this seems like a solved problem. I wonder how you protect the edge of a bezel-free monitor though?

"Related: an article at Gizmodo explains that it takes surprisingly little hardware to replicate (at least most of) Netflix's current online catalog in a local data center. "

It's not surprising. It all boils down to the compression algorithm used. By maintaining a library of nearly exclusively B list movies Netflix is able to seed their algorithm with just a few titles like "Plan 9 from Outer Space", "Catwoman", and "Gigli". The rest of the movie files contain quite a bit of material that has a high degree of overlap with these films which allows for heavy compression. Did you know that "Hitch" for example only takes up 6mb when referenced across a library of these 3 films using the netflix compression schema? It's true.

What do you mean a specific phone or vendor? The Pebble has been around for a long time and has no such allegiances.
And ugly? Have you seen the Steel? It's more handsome than the majority of watches I've owned.

Calendar alerts, live weather, caller ID, and text messages all have made me a fan of my Pebble. Try one for a couple of weeks - I'm pretty sure you'll become a convert. I'm sure it varies based on style, but I've discovered that I probably only respond to about 30-40% of text messages (some are ignored, others are received ends of conversations). The rest can be viewed on my watch without having to ever mess with the phone.

With a watch and a blue tooth head set soon enough the question will not longer be who needs a smartwatch, it will be who needs a smartphone - I think the mini-tablet will ultimately reign supreme and act as a hub for tiny peripherals. That's what I'm hoping for at least.
