I agree. I'll kill and eat anyone who wants to eat my dog then.
That should strike enough fear into would be dog eaters to leave my dog alone. (sarcasm)

Don't eat them, that would be cannibalism!

It's not cannibalism if you feed them to your dog, however. And your dog will enjoy chewing on the bones, too!

Erlang's Creator Speaks About Its History and Prospects 48

Seal writes "Erlang, originally created at Ericsson in 1986, is a functional programming language which was released as open source around 10 years ago and flourished ever since. In this Q&A, Erlang creator Joe Armstrong talks about its beginnings as a control program for a telephone exchange, its flexibility and its modern day usage in open source programs. 'In the Erlang world we have over twenty years of experience with designing and implementing parallel algorithms. What we lose in sequential processing speed we win back in parallel performance and fault-tolerance,' Armstrong said. He also mentions how multi-core processors pushed the development of Erlang and the advantages of hot swapping."

Remember, Kaylee's first 'introduction' to the ship Serenity was on her back - making 'woopie' with Serenity's (then) engineer. (I hope 'woopie' is acceptable to those prudes out there...)

She might not mind 'helping out' fellow crew members if she was able to get a job on the ISS. God know, it could use her engineering skills...

So the real issue is that he thinks the blackberry "is quiet and has a pathetic vibrate mode".

His (oddRaisin's) solution is to abandon the blackberry and get a pager. mark*workfire has proposed an alternate solution that will probably solve oddRaisin's issue without changing/adding hardware - why are you complaining?

It's a better solution then just throwing hardware at the problem. I've had a blackberry and understand both the original issue and mark*workfire solution - it's (probably) the best given the limited info that oddRaisin provided (did he try anything, including RTFM to see how to setup different volumes based on the time/situaation?)

Submission + - Blogger excised from popular blog. (valleywag.com)

seanyboy writes: In a move which has libertarians and anti-cencorship types angrily scratching their heads, Boing Boing have, without explanation, excised all references to well known sex-blogger Violet Blue. This from the company that regularly likes to call out others for similar behaviour [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]. As of now, there's a complete wall of silence over this issue at Boing Boing. Comments referencing Violet Blue are aggressively deleted and as yet Cory, Xeni or any of the Boing Boing "celebrities" have yet to give an explanation.

Submission + - Would-be Hash hares now face felonies - WTF?

zooblethorpe writes: According to an article over at Yahoo! News, a brother and sister in their 30s have been charged with first-degree breach of peace felony charges for laying down the traditional flour marks for a Hash run in New Haven, CT. Apparently folks at an Ikea freaked out when they saw someone laying down a white powder in the parking lot, and then the city authorities had a cow, despite the fellow biking back and telling the cops what the deal was. Choice quote:

"You see powder connected by arrows and chalk, you never know," she said. "It could be a terrorist, it could be something more serious. We're thankful it wasn't, but there were a lot of resources that went into figuring that out."
Excuse me, but WTF? I didn't think the Hash ("the drinking club with a running problem") was really all that obscure — I've seen it everywhere from podunk rural Indiana to suburban Tokyo. And now the New Haven city government says they're going to try to get restitution from the pair. Wasn't there something similar when the whole Aqua Teen Hunger Force brouhaha exploded, about trying to limit public officials from going after other people when what's really at issue is their own stupidity?
