Submission + - 35 Million SK Telecom Accounts Hacked by Chinese (npr.org)

eldavojohn writes: South Korea's SK Telecom has revealed that earlier this week hackers stole 35 million account details from two sites. A portal called Nate Portal that provided e-mail services and a social networking site called CyWorld were the two targets by hackers who, SK Telecom claims, used IP addresses originating from China. From the article, 'The stolen data included user IDs, passwords, social security numbers, names, mobile phone numbers and email addresses. Nate said the social security numbers and passwords are encrypted so that they are not available for illegal use.'

Submission + - Second black eye for Calvert Cliffs reactors (baltimoresun.com)

mdsolar writes: "The former President's favorite nuclear power plant and site of a much ballyhooed nuclear renascence kickoff, Calvert Cliffs in Maryland, has come under special inspection for a second time. Previously, it failed to maintain its roof and a water leak cause a shutdown. Now, security problems have brought more NRC inspection."

Submission + - Use Google Indexing To Identify Vulnerabilities (net-security.org)

Orome1 writes: Next week at Black Hat, Stach & Liu researchers Francis Brown and Rob Ragan will show how the power of Google’s indexing capabilities can be harnessed to identify vulnerabilities — particularly SQL injection flaws — that can be used to take over millions of websites that are at risk. By searching for the right string of information, an attacker can find massive amounts of sensitive data and extract it with a few simple exploits. Over the past year, Stach & Liu has built what may be the world's single largest repository of live vulnerabilities on the web – in fact, over 3,000 new vulnerable websites are added per day to this database via real-time RSS feed updates from both Google and Bing.

Submission + - Hackers use "war texting" to unlock cars, SCADA (extremetech.com)

An anonymous reader writes: Two hackers from iSEC, who will demonstrate their findings at next week's Black Hat USA conference, have successfully reverse engineered the protocol used to control a car's on-board computer. Using off-the-shelf parts to make an ad-hoc GSM network, the researchers simply sniffed the traffic between the car and a remote server, worked out the protocol, and then sent control messages from a laptop straight to the car to unlock it.

If that wasn't scary enough, Don Bailey (one of the researchers) said this: "What I got in two hours with the car alarm is pretty horrifying when you consider other devices like this, such as SCADA systems and traffic-control cameras. How quick and easy it is to re-engineer them is pretty scary." SCADA is a catch-all that covers the networks used to control traffic systems, oil refineries, pipelines...

Submission + - What did the RSA Breach End Up Costing EMC? (net-security.org)

Orome1 writes: RSA, the security division of EMC Corporation, has suffered a breach of its networks and the loss of critical data back in March. An initial refusal of sharing details of the breach and the goal of the attackers with the public ultimately resulted in wide-spread speculation about the matter. In its earnings call for the second quarter of the running year, the company has revealed that it has spent $66 millions for investigating the attack, hardening their systems and working with customers (transaction monitoring, SecurID token replacements) to implement their remediation programs.

Submission + - Solar Energy is Fastest Growing Industry in US

Hugh Pickens writes writes: "Rhone Resch writes that in the last three years the US solar industry has gone from a start-up to a major industry that is creating well-paying jobs and growing the economy in all 50 states employing 93,000 Americans in 2010, a number that is expected to grow between 25,000 to 50,000 this year (PDF). In the first quarter of 2011, the solar industry installed 252 megawatts of new solar electric capacity, a 66 percent growth from the same time frame in 2010 and solar energy is creating more jobs per megawatt than any other energy source (PDF) with the capability, according to one study, of generating over 4 million jobs by 2030 with aggressive energy efficiency measures. There are now almost 3,000 megawatts of solar electric energy installed in the US, enough to power 600,000 homes. In the manufacturing sector, solar panel production jumped 31 percent. "The US market is expected to more than double yet again in 2011, installing enough solar for more than 400,000 homes," writes Resch. "Last year, the industry set the ambitious yet achievable goal of installing 10 gigawatts annually by 2015 (PDF) – enough to power 2 million more homes each and every year.""

It will be interesting to see what happens if atheism does hit that tipping point, but it's not even close yet.

Sorry to pis on your "THE US IS THE WORLD" parade, But why wait? You could look up from your pretty little belly-button and look at western Europe, they are all above the 10% marker.

As to what happens? Norway happens; disillusioned religious people, Trying to "save" the country and return to a better time when all was good and pure. ( Read, A time when the statement; "I believe in JESUS!" would not make you the laughingstock of the party. )

Ps. To all you American Atheists; I feel for you :(

If it make any difference, Over here in Europe things are very different, And it is only a matter of time before you will join the rest of us :)
