Comment Re:Time to remake Jaws (Score 1) 107

Well, if the time travel documentary, "Back To The Future 2" is correct, Jaws 19 will be coming out next year. So, we should be getting about a dozen sequels in the next few months.

Totally stoked for hoverboards, flying DeLoreans, and Home fusion reactors to be invented and appear on the market within the next couple of months as well!

I would love to have more modern version of Usenet. A simple news and commenting protocol that can be implemented in a web browser or a dedicated client alike. Something that is ubiquitous as RSS feeds. I have a client that aggregates all the latest articles from my favorite sites and and then can go in and browse comments in a tree like structure. I would have the ability to mark individual stories and even sub-threads to follow or know what comments I have read or have yet to read. Hell, I doubt that something like that would really be that hard to hack into RSS or design from scratch in XML.

Personally, I miss the early days of the internet where everything had a tool, and there was a tool for everything. There were programs and protocols galore: HTTP, Gopher, Usenet, Email, FTP, IRC, Archie / Veronica, Telnet for BBSes. Most of them are dead or so niche to be included only for "legacy compatibility". Now there is just HTTP to rule them all and shit is boring.

Personally, I think the northern climate excuse needs to go. Germany is farther north than the entire United States (minus Alaska) and they have been the worlds leader in Photovoltaic power generation since 2005. It isn't like they get more sunshine than Arizona or have more land area than the US.

Tell me about it, The Wii sold gangbusters and still no serious developer wanted to touch it. It practically had only first party games and tons of shovelware. Guess what, nobody bought the shovelware. On any other console, publishers would have said, "we are putting out crappy games that no one is buying" but because it is a Nintendo console, they just say, "See, no one buys games on a Nintendo console!" I am convinced that Nintendo could have a 99% market penetration and still no publisher would want to make anything other than the cheapest, crappiest, as-little-effort-as-possible game and then bitch that nobody wants their crap.

I was really bored in my college compiler design class, so I was browsing the web and came across the programming website 99-bottles-of-beer.net. While browsing, I discovered a language with the greatest name ever, Brainfuck. After looking it up on Wikipedia and quickly reading over the code sample at 99 Bottles, I wrote an interpreter during class. By then end of the lecture, I had a working interpreter that ran the sample code perfectly. So in the span of ~40 minutes, I went from never knowing about this language to having written an working interpreter for it, all out of pure boredom in a compiler design class. I showed it to the professor, who found it neat, but I couldn't get any extra credit because it is a *compiler* design class and not an *interpreter* design class.

You are under the assumption that all jobs must generate wealth. Look at a janitor, how much wealth is this guy generating. Are people going to buy more just because the toilets are clean? What about school districts, are the janitors mopping the floor making the school any money? Maybe we should just fire all the janitors because if they don't produce wealth, they must be useless.

What about cashiers?
What about Middle Management?
How much money to these people directly generate vs how much their paid? A good cashier can process more customers in a shorter amount of time generating more dollars per minute income for a store and yet typically get paid shit wages. The average HR middle manager is just a useless paper pusher and get paid pretty damn well, even better than the engineers, developers, and laborers who actually *make* products the company sells.

Still further there is the even more ignorant people that believe that not only should there be a minimum, but that it should be a "living wage" -- because all work that must be done must also be worth enough to afford a nice cozy life.

Whoa, back the horse up. A living wage is not about a "nice cozy life". It is about not having to choose between eating and paying the rent. Believe it or not, there are some people in this country that have to make that decision. Why should anyone have to work 2-3 jobs just to survive when corporate profits are at an all time high?
