Moore's Law speaks to computational horsepower per unit per cost. But even if the computational abilities do not continue to increase, the costs will keep coming down.

Hardware is cheap. It's not an elegant solution, but it's cheap. And getting cheaper.

Focus on the UX, because without that, who cares what your kernel can do? Machines are plenty powerful enough, what you want to do is get your OS in to the hands of the most users possible .... right?

Here in an area known for bitterly cold winters, every new home goes up with an air conditioner, every second big home investment is a pool, and every other driveway has an SUV. Facts I've used to successfully shut up the local climate change propagandists for years. Oh well, I guess it's now official.

One supposes that the climate change outcry should really be: " I want someone else to take care of the effects of climate change so I can keep living just the way I please."

You really want to help the planet? Lighten your own footprint on it.

That said, a self-guided bullet would be a small, fast, deadly autonomous robot ... which would be cool except that it would only be as useful as its range. You would need a very unique use-case to justify it's use over say, a dumb area weapon.

Renewables are only viable if we find ways to store energy effectively ... kind of like the way fossil fuels do.

Otherwise, virtually all the renewables need some form of backup, usually fossil fuel based ... so you'll still need fossil fuels.

And by the way, the most touted renewables (wind/solar) favour only a fortunate few on the planet. So come up with a way of shipping that stored power ... kind of like the way fossil fuels can be shipped to wherever power is needed.

So at least two stories [see also Project Neptune] today from anonymous readers, reminding us of long standing projects that have been mentioned here before. Interestingly both have some Canadian content.

Both really kind of non-stories, just PR or paid advertisements.

Unclear which, but there are no pics of the radar itself.
There are pics of boxes with the two LED packages. There is the picture of a box for a supposedly 10 GHz radar but with no obvious antenna or power supply.
The packages shown could house one or more half wavelength antennae ... but since there are no dimensions, it's a guess.
The packages shown could not house a power supply that would give the kind of ranges they are talking about, or if they can, perhaps there should be some technical specs to illustrate the radar's capabilities, not least of which might be beamwidth and power out.

24 GHz with a range of 100 yds, resolving multiple targets in something easily mounted on a bike ... really?! If you follow radar literature at all, you'll know that that is not trivial.

If you believe in this product, based on the info provided (and $26,000 worth of people apparently do), then you also bought sea monkeys and a time machine. How did those work out for you? There's one born every minute.

Why is the answer always assumed to be binary? Both processes could have been occuring simultaneously.
