That would probably be the fastest way to shut down this idiotic legal threat -- "This is a breeding competition, not a cloning competition. That set of genes in a horse won in the past. Congratulations, good job, breeder! Let's see what the next generation product of these breeders yields.

"We just assumed a base historical background fact, no need to define it further because it's so obvious, of breeding horses as given, and no more foresaw cloning than a Star Trek teleporter creating a duplicate that someone might want to enter."

They are loaded with the "blood" of various champion animals through recorded provenance. They just don't want to allow clones into the competition, or for people to claim they are selling the genes of a horse which won, which didn't.

It's a breeding competition, not a cloning competition.

I used to work for a company that bailed on satellite communication and rented bandwidth on transatlantic cables precisely because of the satellite lag.

It's a lot more to do with all the electronic layers in the way than light in glass vs. space.

Optimized satellites and ground feed dishes could make up for much of the difference...but that speed-packaging tech could be used by intercontinental cabling companies too, keep in mind.

No, we think we have learned. We have not.

Requiring the population to get on bended knee for permission to do things slows the rate of technological advancement, leading to more deaths in the long run as tech lags more and more, like compound interest building up.

It's a mathematical triviality to show the FDA and other business-unfriendly practices lead to magnitudes more deaths than these save by preventing some snake oil from getting to market too fast. All savings of lives so far pale to what would be saved if tech was 10 or 20 years ahead of where it is.

Sigh. Nerds are the technological autists. The geek, in a circus, was the guy who bit off the head of a chicken and other gross stuff. In Revenge of the nerds, Booger was the only geek.

And the gay guy was just the gay guy.

Of course, the meaning of geek has wandered until it is used as a synonym for nerd, as words often do, but only a nerd could tell you that.
