Journal Journal: What the hell? 1

OK, I've been out of the loop for a year or three, so what's the criteria to get this box?

I have to admit that it really made me laugh when I saw it, though I suppose not pouring shit into the comment area could be taken as a positive contribution in a relative sense.

The site feels a little strange with this new interface, but I do like that they didn't incorporate the "dumb it down" portion of Web 2.0 even if 500 different functions can get a bit unwieldy. Given how poorly the art of conversation is faring on the Internet these forum sites could do with a bit of a test before you're permitted to add your two cents; captchas are all well and good, a literacy test would be better, and requiring people to write every comment in assembly language would be just plain silly -- or the next billion dollar Web business. I still don't get this whole Internet thing.

Journal Journal: Marshie Attacks - Halloween Project 3

If you came to my house for Halloween this year the first thing you noticed was 18 inch tall green vampire marshmallows moving around on a 8 foot tall screen hung from the garage door. The next thing you noticed was that a laser assault rifle was placed into your hands and you were commanded to kill Marshie for candy. Ok, by laser assault rifle I mean a laser pointer put into a bunch of PVC, but it looked pretty cool. When a dot appeared on the screen it was detected by my iSight camera and Marshie exploded. If you're interested there are more details including a movie posted here.

Media (Apple)

Journal Journal: Apple TV on crappy old TV for audio?

So I was looking at Apple TV and realized that this is the perfect living room audio jukebox, with auto syncing to iTunes (unlike Squeezebox which only streams). But it only outputs via HDMI or component video, and my tv is way too old for that. Anyone have ideas on how to CHEAPLY convert component to S-Video or composite? I don't really care about video quality, I just want to see the menus to select music.

Handhelds

Journal Journal: Ask the faithful remnant: Bluetooth headsets for concalls?

So I am on a lot of conference calls. Like 3-4 per day. And I often take these calls from a mobile phone (Treo) with a bluetooth headset. (Current one is from Plantronics, nothing fancy.)

Is there a headset that someone has built that is specifically optimized for conference calls? By which I mean, one with a one button or one motion mute? With the treo I have to use an on screen button to mute, which is a big pain when walking or driving. (Of course the headset has some weird option involving holding down a button or something, but that does not work if I can't look at it.)

Any ideas?
