Comment Black Mirror (Score 3, Informative) 257

I think Season 1 Ep 3 of Black Mirror just about nailed the future of the global workforce smack on the head. The rarified elite will control 99.999% of the global wealth while the rest are used as a captive consumer base, forced to watch ads and rewarded in credits for providing energy to help provide "green energy" by toiling on exercise bikes all day and/or by being used as entertainment in reality tv or porn.

If the robot is owned and operated by a person or organization other than the patient, then the patient should have no say. I fail to see the point here. If anything, it would be very difficult to create a robot that could determine if someone is drunk, much less is a drunk. So most likely, any nursing robot would refuse to serve booze to any patient since that would be a far easier option to implement.

So Judges should be held accountable for the decisions of juries? Maybe in your world, judges send in their sheriffs to "aggressively persuade" juries to make the decision the judge wants. That's not how it works in what little of a democratic republic we have left. But, hey -- your perfect world is coming. Fascism is rising fast in the Western World.

Dropping the mobile division would be best. It's super competitive and Sony hasn't had much success in the mobile phone market since the early digital days in the 90s. Seems they would do well to sell off their mobile interests to one of the companies seeking to enter the smart phone market, just their IP and facilities alone would be worth several hundred million

Looking at it's Desktop environment (lumina), there is no way in hell PC-BSD will ever become widely adopted. It's a jarring shitfest of Windows-95 wanna-be hell designed by amateurs. If any OSS *nix has a shot at becoming mainstream by 2020, that would be Ubuntu. While they have their own issues, at least they understand how to put together a good looking UI, and their installer works quite well on consumer grade gear unlike most OSS *nix distros.

Battleships went out the same reason the Presidio and it's coastal batteries protecting the SF Bay was decommissioned -- the days of cannons for Naval warfare are long over.

Why bother with a floating artillery garrison that can only attack targets within a dozen miles when we already have superiority with a Carrier Group consisting of a floating air base accompanied by floating missile platforms that can take out the major military targets of a small nation several hundred miles away all by themselves? A Battleship serves no practical purpose in a carrier group, nor could it ever hope of attacking a hostile carrier group -- subs or guided missile cruisers would take it out before it ever got anywhere near it's intended target
