Comment Makes Prints (Score 1) 499

Send them to Walmart or Costco or wherever, makes some prints and put them in an Album. If your house burns down, sure, you'll lose them and that will be sad... but if you lost them all because of a harddrive crash, I know my wife wouldn't be as understanding! :)

How Cyber Spies Infiltrate Business Systems 83

snydeq writes "InfoWorld's Bob Violino reports on the quiet threat to today's business: cyber spies on network systems. According to observers, 75 percent of companies have been infected with undetected, targeted attacks — ones that typically exploit multiple weaknesses with the ultimate goal of compromising a specific account. Such attacks often begin by correlating publicly available information to access a single system. From there, the entire environment can be gradually traversed enabling attackers to place monitoring software in out-of-the-way systems, such as log servers, where IT often doesn't look for intrusions. 'They collect the data and send it out, such as via FTP, in small amounts over time, so they don't rise over the noise of normal traffic and call attention to themselves,' Violino writes. 'There's probably no way you can completely protect your organization against the increasingly sophisticated attacks by foreign and domestic spies. That's especially true if the attacks are coming from foreign governments, because nations have resources that most companies do not possess.'"

Darth Vader Robs Long Island Bank 190

Apparently the destruction of the second Death Star has stretched the Galactic Empire's coffers so thin that Lord Vader himself is robbing banks. From the article: "Impotent Rebel Alliance security forces tell Newsday (paywall) that Vader marched into a Chase bank in Setauket around 11:30 a.m. today. Brandishing a completely unnecessary handgun — as he had the power to choke the oxygen out every teller's throat — the fallen Jedi demanded cash."

Porting Lemmings In 36 Hours 154

An anonymous reader writes "Aaron Ardiri challenged himself to port his classic PalmOS version of Lemmings to the iPhone, Palm Pre, Mac, and Windows. The porting was done using his own dev environment, which creates native C versions of the game. He liveblogged the whole thing, and finished after only 36 hours with an iPhone version and a Palm Pre version awaiting submission, and free versions for Windows and Mac available on his site."

New "Circuit Breaker" Imposed To Stop Market Crash 460

Lucas123 writes "The SEC and national securities exchanges announced a new rule that would help curb market volatility and help to prevent 'flash crashes' like the one that took place on May 6, when the Dow dropped almost 1,000 points in a half hour. That crash was blamed in part on automated trading systems, which process buy and sell orders in milliseconds. The new rule would pause trading on individual stocks that fluctuate up or down 10% in a five-minute period. 'I believe that circuit breakers for individual securities across the exchanges would help to limit significant volatility,' the SEC's chairman said. 'They would also increase market transparency, bolster investor protection, and bring uniformity to decisions regarding trading halts in individual securities.'"

Submission + - Best Baby Monitor Solution

asn writes: I've been tasked with finding a baby monitoring system for the soon to drop Son 1.0. It is incredible how bad the reviews are on all the systems — poor sound quality, wifi interference, lack of privacy/security, poor video at night or no IR illumination, no standard interfaces, etc. Video seems to be useless if audio is no good in my opinion. I've thought about going the networked camera route, but that seems prone to failure and probably more complication than my wife would stand (even though I'd like to be able to view junior when I'm travelling for business for kicks, throw it up on my monitor while working, on the PiP while watching TV, etc). I'm sure some of my fellow slashdotters have been through this before — any ideal or creative solutions that I can buy or hack together?
