Submission + - FOSS & CC video project sprints to funding goa (kickstarter.com)

jballagh writes: Digital tools now available to filmmakers represent the same sort of explosion in accessibility to the general public that personal computer once brought about. Called Novacut, the project wants to introduce a video editor with the ability for members of a production team to collaboratively edit video from wherever they are while working on the same version of the source files while solidifying FOSS and CC ideals at the lowest levels.

    “Such an editor will help artists reduce costs, work faster, and collaborate with the right people. Such an editor will help independent TV and film succeed. We want artists to win!”

Rudd-O writes "Months after successful discovery of the HD-DVD processing key, an unprecedented campaign of censorship, in the form of DMCA takedown notices by the MPAA, has hit the Net. For example Spooky Action at a Distance was killed. More disturbingly, my story got Dugg twice, with the second wave hitting 15,500 votes, and today I found out it had simply disappeared from Digg. How long until the long arm of the MPAA gets to my own site (run in Ecuador) and the rest of them holding the processing key? How long will we let rampant censorship go on, in the name of economic interest?" How long before the magic 16-hex-pairs number shows up in a comment here?

Werner Heuser writes with an article in Linuxdevices on building your own handheld pointing device that works in mid-air. There is a YouTube video showing the Soap in action and detailed instructions to make your own Soap. From the article: "'Soap,' which resembles a bar of soap, is based on hardware found in a common wireless optical mouse, and is relatively easy to make, according to its inventors. Imagine numerous situations in which one might wish to control an appliance while standing or walking, for example, when giving a slide presentation or interacting with a wall-sized display."

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has launched an online quiz-show style game called Buddy Builder to test young users' abilities to spot potential threats on social networking Web sites. Naturally, the teen audience this is intended to reach is not going to go near the game except as a joke."
