Submission + - Sun Releases JavaFX

ink writes: Sun released JavaFX 1.0 today, in a bid to take on Adobe's Flash and Microsoft's Silverlight technologies. It is Sun's first Java release to include standardized, cross-platform audio and video playback code (in the form of On2 licensed codecs). The lack of a Linux or Solaris release is a notable absence. The development kit currently consists of the base run-time, a NetBeans/Eclipse plug-in and a set of artifact exporters for Adobe CS 3&4.

ink writes: Dell has unveiled its "Eee competitor", the Inspiron 9. It includes an Intel Atom 1.6Ghz, an 8.9" display and weighs in at about 1kg. Prices start at $349. The basic model only offers Ubuntu 8.04, but with a larger drive Windows XP becomes an option.

ink writes: AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless, the nation's two biggest cell phone carriers, bid a combined $16 billion of the record $19.6 billion pledged in the auction, according to an AP analysis of the results. Verizon Wireless bid $9.4 billion while AT&T Inc. bid $6.6 billion. Verizon Wireless, a joint venture between Verizon Communications Inc. and British telecom giant Vodaphone Group, won nearly every license in the consumer-friendly "C block."
