Just like anyone in America can become a preacher. While more traditional religious approaches may include a more scholarly approach to understanding one's professed religion, we can tell by the zillions of self-taught American preachers that zealous bigots with big voices are the religious figures who make the news, either by blaming hurricanes on God's anger at gay marriage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Katrina_as_divine_retribution) or by humping preachers in motels without discretion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Swaggart). I suspect radicalized elements of the Islamic faith are no different, and engage in all kinds of sin, just like their Protestant brothers.
I want to open a BBQ place here in America, where the spokespig is named Mohammed.
in light of this, i suspect the French have every reason to ban Arab-style head garments and perhaps even some support for requiring all Muslims in their country to register, and wear little green triangles on their coats so they're easier to see in a crowd of Frenchmen.
The goal shouldn't be to prevent your files from being seen by the NSA -- it should be to prevent your files from being seen by ANYONE. If you're hiding data from the NSA that sounds like you're some kind of criminal terrorist who hates the US, not a run-of-the-mill responsible sysadmin.
every trip to the theatre with my daughter or my girlfriend is a $50-$60 expense, even if we go to a matinee. fuck it, i'll just stream on the home flat screen.
we could be spending all that money, time, and brainpower on helping people, not killing them.
Since my employer is working me 10+ hours a day, I do not feel any regret over checking my personal email or craigslist during the workday. There's plenty of work to be done; there should be some slack time too.
D&D 5e brings back a lot of the crap I didn't like from 3.x, ignores positive changes made to the game in 4e (powers, tactical battle with miniatures, skill challenges) and introduces a couple of new things: higher prices for books, missing information on how to handle certain situations (for instance: poison), and advantage/disadvantage. All summed up, it's got me saying "meh". The fact that the core rulebooks cost $50 each instead of $20-$30 makes them out of the price range of what 12 year-olds can afford (the age when I started playing AD&D). It seems to me that WotC really fucked up this release, not having the PHB, DMG, and MM ready at the same time. Yes the new books are gorgeous, but have you ever had to use them for building a character or referencing information mid-game? I give it a C.
Also, great programmers may not want to work for someone else. They may choose to work for themselves and make wealth on their talents, rather than slinging code for Microsoft, Symantec, etc. -- especially if the wages paid to H1B's is substantially less than US wages for similar workers.
the united states has only 5% of the world's population, but 100% of the world's best quarterbacks.
a surprising number of murders of citizens by police happen when the cameras are not turned on.
seriously though, the Chinese can destroy our country without setting a single boot on the ground simply through economic measures.
yathink?
But what if Veeger leads the intelligent machines back to Earth?
HOLY MACRO!
