400 million are enrolled with 25 million enrolled last month alone. The program is radically changing the distribution of benefits to many people who were promised them but never saw the access. Many people discuss the ability to fake the biometrics and while there are chances of this occurring it is a fairly complex process and by changing the systems so they are only transferring cash direct to accounts controlled by the individual rather then relying on someone else to be an intermediary creates a lot of freedom to the individual! Being a part of UID was an incredible experience that along with touching so many people truly effected my life as well.

Well they would just be plain wrong. UID has over 250 million people all 10 fingerprints both iris and a facial scan and is growing by almost 1 million per day. So clearly UAE is not looking very hard.

In India we spent $1500 per ear for our daughter for the top of the line. The problem in the US is at least double the price for ever thing!!

Plus the real cost of the system is having to capture all the data in the field. The incremental cost is minimal to capture 1 vs 10 and the improved de-duplication and long term viability of the system is improved by capture all.

It is actually important to capture all the fingerprints because you do not know which finger will be the best over a period of time. Often the best finger for transactions ends up being the little finger since it is the least likely to have damage or get worn off over time.

What is news is that we have crossed the 200 million number and should by the end of next year cross the 600 million unique person enrolled. It has been a fun project to be a part of...

Lets be clear almost every job has non-reimbursable training and supplies that are required to stay competitive and employable. I have never had any of my certification class paid for by a company. I am always maintaining servers to improve and change my skill sets that are outside of the company so I can be more marketable or can make my job easier.

Actually most fingerprint scanners can detect heat and need fresh oil. While it is possible as proven in nigeria most high quality devices are able to detect non-living fingers.

As far as the myth busters episode fingerprint scanners and software are set at a range of false acceptance rates vs false rejection rates. The lower the false acceptance rate the more false rejects you have. The device they used had a very high false acceptance rate meaning it was easy to fool ... it also was a cheap capacity device not an optical such as the ones used in most government applications.

We are starting to rollout ATMs that require fingerprint verification against your UID/Aadhaar number in India.

Many countries have a printed fingerprint on the card but that is effectively useless. The systems need to have it stored in a non-compressed image so the system can match the minutia.

They currently have limited ability to do a 1:N matching for the captured fingerprints. As well as they are not currently doing any deduplication. The national ID is rather ineffective. The services tied to it are only doing photo matching not biometric matching which means it is easy to fake the id.

We enrolled almost 150M in a 18 months in UID/Aadhaar. 180M is just the testing phase for a MASSIVE program. By 2018 UID will have covered almost all of the 1.2 Billion Indians and we are capturing all 10 fingers, both irises and a high resolution photo of every India deduplicated and verified. Now that is Massive.
