An anonymous reader writes: As CPUs reach their limits, researchers are increasingly turning to parallel architectures to undertake high level research. As it happens, Graphics Processing Units have been using these for years, and so are ideal for complex simulations, including one ambitious attempt to emulate the brain of a honey bee. This is not as easy as it might sound, however, and so the challenge lies in developing and re-purposing software that will allow for the many complexities of the brain and ensure GPUs are working at top efficiency.
