Wow, quiet in here.

FOG, aka Free Open Ghosting, at www.fogproject.org, will certainly take images of your hard drives; that's not a problem.
And, I haven't played with it, but it has the capability to do install packages, so that meets the bit-by-bit portion of things.

Like most open-source packages, FOG improves constantly, and recently, it's getting better by leaps and bounds.

It's a neat idea, but most components aren't designed to withstand a hot oil bath; after prolonged exposure materials break down and components begin to fail. Maximum PC has an exclusive hands-on, first look at the new Hardcore Computer Reactor, the first oil-cooled PC available for sale. Hardcore engineered the Reactor to withstand the oil, using space-age materials and proprietary oil. The Reactor's custom-manufactured motherboard, videocards, memory, and SSD drives are submersed in the oil, while the dry components sit outside the bulletproof tank. The motherboard lifts out of the oil bath on rails, giving you relatively easy access to components, and the overall design is simply jaw-dropping. Of course, we'd expect nothing less for a machine with a base price of $4000 that goes all the way up to $11k for a fully maxed out config."

U2's Manager Calls For Mandatory Disconnects For Music Downloaders 658

sleeplesseye writes "In a speech at the Midem music industry convention in Cannes, Paul McGuinness, longtime manager of the band U2, has called on Internet service providers to immediately introduce mandatory French-style service disconnections to end music downloading, and has urged governments to force ISPs to adopt such policies. McGuinness criticized Radiohead's 'In Rainbows' pay-what-you-want business model, saying that 'the majority of downloads were through illegal P2P download services like BitTorrent and LimeWire'. He also accused ISPs, telcos, device makers, and numerous specifically named companies such as Apple, Google, Yahoo!, Oracle, and Facebook of building 'multi billion dollar industries on the back of our content without paying for it', and of being 'makers of burglary kits' who have made 'a thieves' charter' to steal money from the music industry. Cyvillian writes: "Wired has just released word that Fox is ready to issue a release that says they've contracted Multiverse to create a Firefly MMROPG. Wired writes "Like Capt. Mal Reynolds stumbling in after a bar fight, the short-lived but much beloved sci-fi series Firefly will soon make an unexpected return, not as a TV show, but as a massively multiplayer online game. Now that's shiny." Given the sheer amount of Korean grindfests, this should be like finding a diamond in the rough, but can Multiverse refine their system to appease the browncoats?"

Sktea writes: Infoworld.com reports that a spokesman for Microsoft says they will issue no patches on the next 'Patch Tuesday' for versions of Word vulnerable to the recent zero-day threat. There is no mention whatsoever of the omission in the latest advance notification at the company's security site. I guess it's time to upgrade, huh? Me, I associated all DOCs and DOTs with OpenOffice on Wednesday.
