Comment living on a space-ship (Score 1) 334

The goal of space exploration is to flee from super-novae. Humans become nomads again. Mostly living on space-ship, moving far below c, using fusion energy, communication using radio waves, developing A.I.. It will not allow us to reach outer pulsars, but in the long time will spread us across the galaxy until all stars die. Did not RTFA.

Comment Application (Score 1) 203

Flying cars are great if you drive 200 km/h on the autobahn and suddenly someone cuts you off or behind a corner everything is red. Radar detects obstacle, map knows that there is no bridge or high voltage line => jump. Typically in these cars there is only one person with lightweight cargo. One needs props, lifting body, but no wings. On the car shown in the link I cannot see many compromises. Pusher prop may be not that ideal, but not that bad either. Folding wings are standard on carriers. Aerodynamics and a good suspension are good for road and air.

Comment Re:Bikes lanes are nice (Score 1) 213

I do 30mph, but only to catch green light, or when overtaking grandma's on bikes. I like to weave through the oncoming left turning cars. On many roads (without bike-lane) I have the same speed as the cars. Some dumb drivers try to overtake me and then cut me when they have to avoid a parking car on the left side. When I drive by car, I often adjust to the speed of the bikes (if the traffic-light is red anyway). Right turning cars are a nightmare, I like to jump on the road, overtake left and then return to the bike lane. I hate it if the traffic planer build obstacles in between . Of course I live in a city where everybody rides like me or worse: Münster in Germany

Comment Use case (Score 1) 107

For the use case with the mountain and the lake in the way of the car: Why no use a plane? Lots of roads a wide enough for a real plane. I think with self driving cars and mandatory apps for the rest it should allow to dynamically clear roads of cars. The the pilot of the plane pays the drivers of the cars some compensation and: Win-Win. The other use case is traffic jam or an obstacle on the road. For this the cars only need to hop to the next free road. They need not to be efficient.

Comment Useful (Score 1) 82

CRTs do not flicker if they are refreshed after at max 10 ms. There may be a problem with intensity fluctuations. LCD panels do not wash out if they are refreshed after at max 30 ms? Since the desktop runs in 3d today, this is useful for everybody. You could even watch movies at 48 fps, PAL at 50 fps, NTSC at 59.997 fps fullscreen. No more tripple buffer! Maybe we could even get variable timing for horizontal refresh in order to calculate post-processing on the fly like in on the gameboy.

Comment Wikimedia is not youtube (Score 1) 235

I bought a camera and a notebook. Thus a license for creating and viewing H.264 was forced upon me. I use FLOSS for H.264. I never look back. Wikipedia is for the whole world. People like me having a player license from MPEG-LA does not mean, other have it, too. And I am still not allowed to produce professionally and distribute. Wikimedia is not youtube. I do not like other people watching videos using the money I spend (or may spend). Bandwidth hog. Limit global video bandwidth on Wikipedia. I do not like unformatted data. Limit audio, limit bitmaps and jpegs. SVG is slightly better. See how many articles feature these nice and standardized tables!
