Dude, I work at the University of Washington - and I know what our faculty make.

And you don't have to take my word for this. State of Washington employee salaries - this includes UW faculty - are publicly available. Look up the names of some of our CSE or EE faculty, for example, and then Google for the info yourself.

And UW is pretty middle-of-the-road in terms of US faculty salaries... 56th percentile or thereabouts.

Professors in technical areas make large amounts of money, and are guaranteed their salary for life once they've been promoted once (to associate professor).

In my department, at the lowest level - assistant professor (tenure track, but not yet tenured) - they are making well north of 10K dollars a month. Full professors fall anywhere between 15K-25K a month.

On the other hand, professors in the arts or history departments make less than many staff earn.

Note that this is all public record - I'm not exactly giving away secrets.

Sure, you may think acronyms are harmless, but if they ever catch on... next thing you know, people will be putting numbers and symbols in place of letters, or even (God forbid) substituting one letter for another!

So to get access to a Comcast customer's wi-fi, you also have to be a Comcast customer AND you are limited to a short amount of time per month.

I suspect what's going to happen soon is Comcast will start charging its customers per device, since visitor's computers/devices are now separated out from the homeowner's stuff. "So you own one iMac, three Kindle Fire tablets and an iPhone? That's five MACs connecting to our service - so here's the base charge, plus the $10/month surcharge per extra device."

I also expect there'll be a premium "feature" where Comcast customers can pay for additional "roaming" time on Comcast routers other than their own.

Really, the biggest surprise isn't that Linnaeus outranks Jesus - it's that Jesus managed to outrank Joss Whedon.
