There's a guy in CA http://www.mrsharkey.com/pusher.pdf who made a EV out of a VW Rabbit, then made a hybrid by lopping off the front end of another Rabbit, and attached it via a rigid towbar to the back of the EV, along with the necessary control electonics for changing gears, etc.
