Comment Go for it. (Score 0) 259

Two years ago I would have looked down on this, saying that the minimum requirement for participating in government would be showing up one day a year to check some boxes on a form.

However, those two years have brought on voter registration laws designed to disenfranchise, laws so blatantly racist that it's pants-on-heads insane that anybody let them get away with it.

Gerrymandered districts can't be fixed til the next census. Mobile voting could be a hell of a stopgap before then.

You guys don't get it - cops aren't against this because it'll catch them breaking the law, they do that all the time now with impunity. They're against it because their boss will be able to see them taking naps in parking lots.

The only way you get to a cop is to threaten to take away their OT, tenure, or pension.

I think that's ass-backwards, but I guess that's just me.

There is nothing. There is no good solution for you. That was the answer in 2005 when I first asked it, and that is the answer today.

Even an ancient copy of Cool Edit Pro running on Widows XP is more usable, useful, and powerful than any audio software available natively on Linux. Your non-professional, non-Windows options all share many (if not all) of these problems:

1. Limited basic functionality
2. Extensible only through writing your own code
3. Difficult (impossible) to configure
4. Literally the worst UIs you will ever see in your entire life
5. Often unable to work with digital mixers and audio interfaces

In the time it would take you to get something useful and functional working in Linux, you could spend the cash you would have made working minimum wage on Windows and Audition (or just pirate a copy of Cool Edit Pro).

Or maybe he would have founded a different company that succeeded, or not. Or maybe he would have fallen into oblivion and led a happy, quiet life somewhere with 2.5 kids and a dog...but probably not. His upbringing and education level means he will most likely succeed wherever he landed. Numbers game or not, the dude is smart. The dude had opportunity. Those two things probably means he would have succeeded here or elsewhere regardless.

My point is, don't rag on a guy that you don't know. You really think you or the OP or anyone knows anything about this guy? No. He's a celebrity. You know what you know because of how you interpret your brief, non-face to face encounters with him, and how he is portrayed by others in social and media outlets.

There is too much hate now-a-days. Everyone, chill the fuck out. Stop tearing him down for the sake of tearing him down or making yourself feel better.

Clearly people hate MS and Ballmer (me too, the guy wasn't great, but he also wasn't terrible), but at least understand what your criticizing him for first...

1) Everyone to a certain extent is a victim (good or bad) of time and circumstance. Yeah, he was buddies with Bill and Paul. That helped. Friends always helps. How many jobs have you (collectively) had due to friends or networking? How many perks in life come from other people? How many people have benefited from being attached to Ballmer?

2) Selling used cars? Really? Really? Do you know anything about this man? His upbringing? All the prep schools he attended? His 800 on the math section of his SAT? He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard with degrees in mathematics and economics. But you're right. He'd be a car salesman if not for Bill and Paul.

You statement is a stupid. Take your hate elsewhere.

Starbucks uses a dark roast. The darker the roast, the more caffeine is burned out. The thing that makes it stronger is the espresso extraction method, not the coffee; the problem with that is, the dark roast removes a lot of the complexity and the amount needed per cup raises the price.

If you want to experience a real coffee rush that doesn't cost you a fortune, get a light roast and put it through a Mr. Coffee. Tastes better for a fraction of the price.
