Iran Wants To Clone Downed US Drone 663

PolygamousRanchKid sends this quote from the LA Times: "The Obama administration has sent a formal diplomatic request asking Iran to return the radar-evading drone aircraft that crashed on a CIA spying mission this month, but U.S. officials say they don't expect Iran will comply. 'We have asked for it back,' Obama said Monday at a news conference in Washington with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki. 'We'll see how the Iranians respond.' His comments marked the first public confirmation that the RQ-170 Sentinel drone now in Iranian hands is a U.S. aircraft, though U.S. officials privately acknowledged that in recent days. Iran has claimed it downed the stealthy surveillance drone, but U.S. officials say it malfunctioned. Capture of the futuristic-looking unmanned spy plane has provided Tehran with a propaganda windfall. The government announced that it planned to clone and mass produce the bat-winged craft for use against its enemies." Iran has also demanded an apology from the U.S. for the drone flight in its airspace.

Ask Slashdot: Clever Cable Management? 374

sooth... writes "What clever ways have network administrators found to cleanly sort varying length patch cables within IDFs, BDFs, and MDFs or simply wiring closets? Pictures or examples are welcome." Since not everyone is a network administrator, let's expand this to include efficient or clever management of other cables. How do you route your computer cables (internal or external), your entertainment center cables, or any other corded setup?

Costly SSDs Worth It, Users Say 288

Lucas123 writes "When you're paying $30,000 for a PCIe flash card, it had better demonstrate an ROI. While users are still struggling with why solid state storage cost so much, when they target the technology at the right applications, the results can be staggering. For example, when Dan Marbes, a systems engineer at Associated Bank, deployed just three SSDs for his B.I. applications, the flash storage outperformed 60 15,000rpm Fibre Channel disk drives in small-block reads. But when Marbes used the SSDs for large-block random reads and any writes, 'the 60 15K spindles crushed the SSDs,' he said,"

Submission + - 2 dead, 16 injured at iPad factory (theregister.co.uk)

Ykant writes: The Register (and other news sources) are reporting that 16 people were injured and two killed after an explosion at the Foxconn plant near Chengdu.

The plant is a manufacturing location for the iPad2, and is also believed to be a fabrication facility for the next iPhone.

Footage of the factory and evacuation is available as well.

Your second and third sentences are factually inaccurate. Carbs from many vegetables are not only allowed, but recommended (I admit I haven't seen a recent revision of the plan, so I can't say "required" anymore). Within certain specified limits.

As I recall, fruits start to come back in after the first 2 weeks.

I might agree with the first sentence, though.

Comment Alrighty then. (Score 1) 9

I know we've got some exceptionally crooked politicians here, but they at least make *some* effort to cover up their favoritism. This is crooked, right on its face. It would be impressive if it wasn't so frustrating.

Cook's Magazine Claims Web Is Public Domain 565

Isarian writes with a story, as reported on Gawker and many other places, that "Cooks Source Magazine is being raked over the coals today as word spreads about its theft of a recipe from Monica Gaudio, a recipe author who discovered her recipe has been published without her knowledge. When confronting the publisher of the offending magazine, she was told, 'But honestly Monica, the web is considered "public domain" and you should be happy we just didn't "lift" your whole article and put someone else's name on it!' In addition to the story passing around online, Cooks Source Magazine's Facebook page is being overwhelmed with posts by users glad to explain copyright law to the wayward publisher."
