many of the countries with 100 Mb and gig to the home almost universally do not have for-profit privatized telcos.

they have nationalized telcos, and if the leader of their administration says "run fiber, not wire," they get the money and power to do that.

the rest back up "requests" to speed it up with subsidized dollars to make it work.

in the US, if you can't make your dividends and trench down fiber, the fiber doesn't happen.

it's been 3 or 4 years since several telcos petitioned the FCC to set out the guidelines for making VoIP replace copper, and take care of all the legal aspects in the separate states. until that happens, NostrilDrippus Predicts! (tm) there will be precious little formal abandonment of wireline cables and service. it's still possible to make a buck on the copper, but increasingly the way that works is to cut the ranks of the techs who repair it.

not only would I take them to court and file a civil rights compalint with the Department of Justice, I'd blog every step of the fight, with the phone numbers and home addresses of those pinhead dictator school board members.

and if my kid HAD cyberbullied, they would be so grounded. I'd take the smartphone away and they'd have a Jitterbug like Granny.
