Any petty bickering on the issue should probably at least briefly cite the opinion and dissent of the US Supreme Court from District of Columbia vs Heller. The document has excellent arguments for both positions, and establishes some of the most current case law on the matter. It also shows what knowledge and consideration real adults use to settle constitutional matters.

Sarcasm is a frequent veil on the straw man fallacy, but in reality you are portraying the original argument in a reduced way which appears so stupid that it is obviously incorrect, which is the textbook definition of said fallacy.

Actually, a straw man fallacy consists of portraying an opposing argument in an incorrect manner, usually missing important details or appearing overly general, and then implying that the original argument has been fully disproved.

This is actually an example of a straw man fallacy, because however unsavory you find it to be that Firethorn thinks people might actually enjoy penis jokes, he did not advocate that there is never an inappropriate context. Your statement contrives what is probably one of the clearest examples of when a penis joke would be considered harassment (unsolicited to a group of strangers, of any gender really) and without considering any other example, dismisses the entire argument.

You were probably attempting to use sarcasm or hyperbole--and you probably frequently suppress divergent opinions--without ever actually knowing the name of the rhetorical tactic that you employ... the straw man fallacy.

The improvements in Windows security, compounded with the noteworthy age and derelict nature of several important Linux desktop components (think Xorg...), have caused me to switch mostly to Windows 8.1 for the desktop.

The USB A socket is rated for less than one insertion/day assuming a five year useful computer lifespan. Micro USB moves the contact springs into the cable, so that the primary wear items can be easily replaced.

My PC is fairly modest, GTX 760, E5-1620 V2, 16GB ram. Using a RAID 5 array of decent magnetic storage (easily capable of 200 MB/sec) allowed Minecraft to run at about 20 fps with a chunk update radius of 32. Switching the system drive to a Crucial MX200 consistently reaches the vsync limit of 60 fps with the same chunk update setting.

Perhaps you should look into a more contemporary SSD... low end consumer ones are easily reaching 500MB/s. Furthermore, the IOPS specification is really much more important.

Talking about performance without benchmarks is like racing cars by looking at the spec sheets. The bottleneck in Minecraft is chunk updates, and they are inherently random disk IO bound. Spend that $2500 on a good SSD, and the game will run perfectly.

This is only true of Java applets, and nobody is really arguing with you that they are a bad idea.

Java--the language and runtime virtual machine--run executable code on your computer with the permissions of the user that starts the application, just like a plain binary app. Supposing that you did not trust Minecraft, the JVM is not there to protect you from it.

Always ECC user here as well. With Intel, only Xeon systems come with ECC support in the chipset. You are actually looking for any workstation level computer with a Xeon chip, although Dell is the only outfit with an even semi reasonable price.

The point is much better served by saying that, instead of making the almost certainly untrue claim that the first poster was paid by someone to argue with idiots on Slashdot.... My post pointed out an actual logical fallacy in your argument, without insulting you in any way. You reply with, "thinking error", which implies some actual defect in my thinking process instead of argument. While it was a strong suspicion before, at this point the evidence is great that you are an asshole.
