I'm betting that this is actually part of Palin's nefarious plans to win the primary by convincing Democrats to get her on the Republican ticket. I'm not sure what the second half of her evil plans are but I think the big picture looks like this:

1. Get Democrats to assist with primary
2. ???
3. Become President.

I know for sure that I do not need a gun to protect myself over here.

How did you determine this? What's the police response time to your location from the moment you make a call? Here in the US, the response time for a call is 10 minutes as the national average.

Can you stay alive with for 10 minutes or however long it takes for the police to arrive at your location?

Recently here in the US, it took the police 45 minutes to respond to a kidnapping/home invasion where $15k was stolen, the house was burned, and everyone except for the husband was killed.

Are you sure your police force will arrive in time to save you? Willing to bet your life on it?

This is how America's Special Forces work. The team gets a mission. Everyone comes up with a plan. The team goes over the plan. The good one emerges. The ones not as good fade out. Everyone pokes and prods the good plans until they figure out which one is going to bring about the mission results.

That is the plan the team executes. But at the beginning, everyone on the team has a plan.

I've never understood why Apple has such an obsession with Objective C

Allow me to explain.

1. Who owns the language spec? What if there was a modification needed to the language to meet the needs of Apple's hardware that's going to be released to consumers? For example, blocks. How fast could Apple introduce something like that if the language spec was owned by ... for purpose of example, Oracle?

2. Who owns the runtime? See question 1.

Objective-C gives Apple the flexibility to make changes as needed to meet their needs without waiting on some standards body or another corporation to get in the way. Apple will not walk away from Objective-C for these reasons.
