Submission + - Australian Federal Police take control of Internet (tinyurl.com)

uanmi writes: On November 9, 2012 the Australian Federal Police used an section of the telecommunications act 1997 to force carriers and ISPs to implement filters for the Interpol worst-of list related to child pornography. This is the first time Section 313 has been used in this way and the question has been asked if the Australian Federal Police will now use this Section to broaden the fight against crime and possibly to invade the privacy of all Australians. This is a new development that potentially puts the police in firm control of the internet in Australia and was this the intention of the Telecommunications Act?
