AC is right, if you're using headphones with the volume maxed out you should be destroying your eardrums unless the output is set to line-out.

Are you sure you're connecting your headphones to the speakers out output? If there's any software for your audio chipset, is it set for headphones for that particular output?

Every time I see that term, I cringe. I've never heard anything 100% good from any of those guys, there's always some trickery or grey-area ethics involved.

I would love to see Atmel go with Intel, just to see what could come out of it.

I'd like to see the ATtiny and ATmega series running above 20MHz. Sure there's other Atmel uC that can do that, but in non-DIP packages and at a much higher price.
