Comment Good Luck Trying To Hire Me (Score 0) 108

I'm not trying to get a security-related job anyway, but even so: I won't be applying to companies who want to take my fingerprints or my photograph.

I don't do piss tests or credit checks. Why should I do fingerprints of photographs?

Not very damned many people need a particular job that badly; there is usually other work to be had.

It doesn't do you any good if you don't itemize your deductions though.

True. In my case, even being debt-free (including mortgage paid off) itemizing is a must to get full benefit - any my accountant computes my return both ways to be sure. IANAA but imagine that anyone with a mortgage and/or a few grand in charitable donations should be itemizing, especially if living in a state w/state taxes.

it seems like it's really good news for the people who stream Netflix on Comcast.

Why?

People tend to forget: they're already paying for that bandwidth. What Comcast has done is start charging Netflix to send you video over bandwidth you're already paying for. And now Netflix's costs are higher, which they will likely pass onto you, so you will end up paying twice for the same ISP service.

No, that's not good.

I payed someone at H&R a good hundred bucks just to give me the exact same information. Sad day, but a lesson learned for next year I guess.

Just remember to deduct that $100 next year (for those that don't know, tax prep fees are deductible).

And to answer the article question, I use an accountant and e-file. I'm debt-free (including my mortgage) so my taxes aren't difficult, excepting some charitable donations, associated tax-credits and dividends, but the $245 I pay is less than my salary for the time I would spent and I like having someone else review my situation to make sure I'm not doing anything stupid.

I haven't weighed in on the Eich thing yet because I couldn't quite put my finger on what exactly was giving me an uncomfortableness about it. I support gay marriage, I'd question why anyone would be insane enough to actually want to get married, but if they want it why not.

What burns about the whole affair is that the relevant parties had their say, the people voted, and that should be that. Instead we've got vengeance seeking from those in favour of gay marriage, making lists, hunting people down and persecuting them by whatever means are available. In other words, McCarthyism.

Fuck that.

Honestly you can hardly blame them, I finally read the summary on the last story after posting a half dozen comments and found that a link I'd spent five minutes googling was the first link up there. Scanning quickly over the other comments I found that three other people had "discovered" this same link and been modded up for it.

Once I figure out how to make relevant comments without even reading the other comments I will truly be a max level slashdotter.
