Comment T-Mobile works for me (Score 1) 482

Haven't signed a contract in 3 or so years since I left Sprint (and Verizon before that). I've been on T-Mobile with their sort of hidden $30/month plan of 5Gb 4G data, unlimited text, 100 talk minutes. I say it's sort of hidden because this rate is only available if you start a new account online. I never gab on the phone but I do surf and stream alot so this works for me. Currently using a Galaxy SII which is more than good enough.

a black Attorney General, black Supreme Court Justices, black Secretaries of State, and numerous black Senators and Congressmen. Yet there have been few Latinos in the upper echelons of the government and even few Asians. I think affirmative action has already done it's job and is no longer needed.

Comment QST and QEX (Score 1) 285

QST comes with membership in the ARRL but can also be found in some radio and electronics stores. QEX cost extra but is worth it if you are really deep into building your own stuff. Nuts and Volts is pretty good too. There are electronic versions of these three but I'll only pay for the printed version. If they go electronic only I won't renew my subscription.

Many tech workers with kids and who want a house live down there where it's cheaper. Set up office down there (too) and hire the 30+ set. It will take some of the pressure off of their Mountain View facilities. And it was dumb to expand into SF. It was ridiculously expensive already and very hostile to big business, even ones that are liberal and cool.

First, pack at least couple solar powered calculators. You can get cheap scientific calculators at the dollar store. They'll be worth their weight in gold during the second Renaissance. Second, don't give the mathematician any weapons. Let him be a mule, carrying any tech books you find along the way. Give him a pencil and pad of paper and let him re-derive the whole of known mathematics.

A benefit with Palo Alto and surrounding communities is that you can actually find parking. And it's almost always free! Or if you like to ride a bike, the roads are actually bike friendly. The streets are wide and many with dedicated bike lanes. And for the weekend trek, there are many scenic routes with little or no traffic. Live in SF? Hell no! Disclosure: I'm in Mountain View.

Comment What is the appeal of becoming a business man? (Score 4, Interesting) 48

Hello Larry, Since you are an EE and started out hacking systems together, I assume you loved working with technology and the open source down at the nuts and bolts level. Now you are a suit, a very successful business man running companies that serve business (CRM!). What's the appeal of sitting in Board meetings, wheeling and dealing on the phone or in teleconferences and all that? It seems to me, if you still had a passion for tech, you would have taken your riches and either started a new company on something cool. Or just retire and use your free time to play with tech.
