Not to mention that whole "time dilation" thing. Even getting anywhere near a significant percentage of the speed of light, sure, the riders/astronauts in the ship will get there in whatever "shorter" time it ends up being...but those of us who sent them off will grow old and die before they ever reach the destination. So very completely and utterly depressing.
I feel that one, my friend. I'm always deeply fascinated by all we can see and find in the observable universe...then immediately depressed that we're unlikely to explore these worlds, solar systems, etc. [in my lifetime anyways].
One would at least have expecetd MrHanky to respond, given his purporting that problems criticism of systemd is "never about actual problems it might have today." Hell, even when that's done, it's usually that "it's brand-new...what brand-new piece of software doesn't have bugs?" SMFH
As a fellow black man in this industry, I could not have said it better myself. I'm just mad that I didn't come across this article until today (having a painful time catching up on my RSS feed, haha). But yes, you've hit the nail on the head of so many points that I was going to raise myself in a separate post, thanks for saving me the time. Namely, people who've only spoken to me on the phone or seen my resume, being surprised when they find that I'm black. Also, the point about anti-intellectualism in our community, being accused of "acting white", etc. The point about it not being the industry's fault, etc. I've actually not come across racism keeping me from a promotion or from a job offer, and I live in the South (FL). I've only ever seen hiring managers want the most intelligent and capable person for the job, which is usually myself. Skin color has never been an issue for me. All excellent points that I was going to hit on.
Lol, I thought the same thing!!
Orlando-area resident here, and I couldn't agree more. I like the jab about hurricanes too, especially since in my 20 years of living here, Charley was the only really bad hurricane we had [here in Central FL], and it's been beyond quiet since then. Anecdotal, but relevant given his "only getting worse" assertion.
Sure we want all that, when due process is followed. I.e., a judge must have signed a warrant for access to that information. It doesn't (or shouldn't) somehow change just because it's Facebook, or whatever other online entity. That's the issue...which you touched on in your second paragraph. Not sure who you're preaching to with the first paragraph...
Hear, hear.
Care to link to a study showing MJ smoke causes lung cancer? Because I'll link to one that shows it not only does not cause cancer, but in fact has been shown to inhibit lung cancer cell growth: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com....
Or, were you just regurgitating old "reefer madness" inaccuracies for some unknown reason, since other people's usage in no way affects you?

Gawd I love my state.
Great reference, but sorry I need to nitpick it (being one of my favorite movies growing up).
President: Enough with this anomaly horseshit! What is this thing?
BBT: It's an asteroid sir. That's what took out the shuttle.
President: How big is it? (?)
Random NASA grunt: Sir according to our calcuations blah blah blah
BBT: --It's the size of Texas, Mr. President
Was so sad to see Arch Linux fall to this shit. Being a "FreeBSD on the server" guy, I was happy to use Arch on my desktops/laptop since I loved the rc.conf and the minimalist approach to installation, the AUR, etc. Still on Arch now, out of familiarity and lack of other choices, but may be trying FreeBSD on my laptop soon (already works for my use on the desktop).
Wish I could see a list of the 20 additional cities. I doubt any of those are in FL either...the entrenched good ol' boy network down here would never let that fly.
Lol!!!! Where are my mod points...
