Sorry, but the excuse that it's "not because they're gay but because they're speading gay propaganda" line is simply bullshit.

The law (which I do not necessarily support) forbids people from spreading a specific kind of propaganda to minors.

It's not a specific kind of propaganda. Any expression of a 'non-traditional sexuality", like holding hands in public, is considered "propaganda to minors".
Any kind of parade or demonstration has been outlawed.

I don't now anything about Scandinavian taxes but over here in the Netherlands the excise tax is based on the amount of alcohol, not the untaxed price of the beverage. This makes cheap booze relatively more expensive. It's about 45 cents for a liter of wine.
For a 5 euro bottle of wine the tax would be 10% of the total, while the price of 50 euro bottle only includes 1% of tax.

(Note that there are other taxes involved besides the excise and one has to pay tax on the alcohol-tax).

Submission + - Lost Martian data recovered by open source. (avaneya.com)

Phrogger writes: NASA launched the Viking Lander in 1975. This ambitious project was the first to successfully reach and photograph the surface of Mars. The public domain data was stored magnetic tapes, state of the art at the time but discovered to be deteriorating in the '90's. Even though the data was transferred to CD's, it's in a now inaccessible proprietary format that even NASA itself can't decode. Now "a small, pioneering, Canadian software studio" Cartesian Theatre, which is developing Avaneya , a GPL game for Linux, has reverse-engineered this format and released Avaneya: Viking Landing Remastered with the 14 gig historic mission data set on the DVD. Their original purpose was "initially intended as an internal research tool to facilitate the studio's need for reference material to assist in the production of lucid and highly realistic virtual environments for its ambitious upcoming cerebral science fiction game title, Avaneya . Public interest, however, inspired the studio to consider the data recovery challenge in a different light – as a creative opportunity to leverage crowd sourcing to offset costly research and development of the game, as well as in the direct interest of the general public."

Submission + - German court invalidates Microsoft FAT patent (techworld.com) 1

walterbyrd writes: Microsoft storage patent that was used to get a sales ban on products from Google-owned Motorola Mobility in Germany has been invalidated by the German Federal Patent Court.

Microsoft's FAT (File Allocation Table) patent, which concerns a "common name space for long and short filenames" was invalidated on Thursday, a spokeswoman for the Federal Patent Court said in an email Friday. She could not give the exact reasons for the court's decision before the written judicial decision is released, which will take a few weeks.

Submission + - First Commercial Moon Lander Unveiled (nbcnews.com)

Jeremiah Cornelius writes: Ready to launch in 2015, California-based Moon Express unveiled its MX-1 lunar lander on Thursday in Las Vegas, at the Autodesk University conference. The MX-1's main rocket engine will burn hydrogen peroxide, though it also relies on kerosene as an afterburner to accelerate out of Earth orbit. To reduce mass, engineers used composite materials and eliminated the structure that supports most spacecraft. Instead, the MX-1's fuel tanks serve as the structure. The lander is designed for delivering 132 pounds (60 kilograms) of payload to the lunar surface.

No, never in my life have I hurt an animal for my own entertainment. Sure, I've squashed bugs that were in the wrong place at the wrong time but never for entertainment.
Although I have to admit that my pet rabbit probably suffered more from my love than the flies suffered from your torture.
Another counter-point would be that I eat meat and in our society meat (and food in general) is more entertainment than nourishment, but that's stretching it.
